For the financially challenged home studio musician, finding good free software can be a bit difficult at times.
This is especially so when it comes to the more complicated software that is capable of full audio/midi recording, editing, and sequencing.
Still, that said there are in fact golden nuggets to be found out there in the wide expanse of the Internet.
Reaper is one such piece of software it seems, and if the feature list is to be believed, this uncrippled, unexpiring shareware is quite a find at that.

Designed to be a powerful multitrack recorder (of both audio and MIDI data), and audio editor, Reaper has seen a great deal of development during the projects lifetime, and will no doubt continue to have features added, performance improved, and any remaining bugs squashed over coming months.
Read more about Reapers features here, or read up on the detailed technical specifications here.

This really looks like a great find . Must check it out !
It looks interesting. Similar to the way reason looks.
Checked it out, looks great only one thing I'd like to point out: The demo version is free, but it costs $50 or $225 depending on what type of license you are looking for. Having said that, if it truly performs the way it says, $50 for non-commercial license is a pretty good deal
Yeah thats true, they have increased the cost of buying an official license. However there is no demo version, they simply ask that you pay them for the software if you want to keep using it - and it does seem to come down to the individuals own moral compass, as they state on the Reaper website:
"REAPER is available for download without technological limitations for evaluation purposes. Once you have evaluated REAPER, you should purchase a license."
Effectively meaning that whether or not you buy a license, the software has the same capabilities. But yeah, I would suggest that if you really do value any software package, you support the company making it.
touche. Totally half asleep when I went through that. I'm gonna install it and see what it can do; I was using audacity as my recording program but I need a program that's a little more robust.
