Tascam US144 USB MIDI Audio Interface

The Tascam US144 USB interface is primarily designed for people needing a portable audio and MIDI interface for their laptop based recording setup. This unit does have a reasonable feature set however, so musicians and producers simply wanting a compact USB audio interface for their desktop PC studio will often buy a Tascam US144.

The Tascam US144 USB interface features:

  • 2 XLR mic inputs with phantom power
  • S/PDIF Digital Input & Output
  • 2 analog line inputs (1 switchable to high impedance for use with guitars, basses, etc.)
  • 1 MIDI input, 1 MIDI output
  • USB 2.0 equipped (also supports USB 1.1)
  • Up to 96kHz/24-bit for high quality recordings
  • Zero-latency hardware monitoring
  • Separate headphone output & level controls
  • Bus powered for use with any PC or Mac, including laptops

I'd say that the Tascam US144 would be suitable for most compact home studios, who are wanting to be able to record 2 or less tracks simultaneously, and who will use perhaps one or two MIDI connections for external MIDI devices.

Any comments on this interface are welcome in the Tascam US144 comments forum thread.
