Falling

  • Artist: Matt
  • Title: Falling
  • Genre: Electronic
  • Year: 2002
  • Length: 2:58 minutes (2.73 MB)
  • Format: Stereo 44kHz 128Kbps (CBR)

This is another of my older tracks, which I put together with some selectively sampled vocals from an acquaintances recording, and my flatmates guitar playing - also heavily sampled and rearranged to fit my needs. Very repetitive, but still has something worthwhile about it, in my opinion!

Worthwhile - hell yeah! This is what I'd class as Sunday morning or hot summer night music. Looking forward to hearing more... You might even have given me the kick that I need to re-visit some of the chill out stuff I've been meaning to have a go at.

matt's picture

Hey thanks for that Phantom! Sometimes it's easy to get discouraged about your music, and it's all good to hear some positive feedback!! I'll be sure to post some more of my tracks when I get a chance.

I'm also working with some new associates on a hiphop remix at the moment, so look out for the featured remix release on MakeTunes soon!

Mad cool track, I have a mix of 'study music' on my iPod and I added this to it. I was impressed.

Thanks very much :)

If you like what you hear on MakeTunes, please tell someone - spread the word!

Inspirational - makes me want to get to work on my tracks so that I can eventually match your quality.

matt's picture

Cheers pasa! Inspiration works both ways I guess, as I find it a huge boost in confidence to hear good things said about something I've created - especially when life is busy trampling on my head!

VivOb's picture

I've commented already on this but i came back for another listen. tunes got a good earthy beat to it, sounds full and complete, reminds me of nightmares on wax or a gatecrasher chill session.
once again, lovely stuff!

I am new (my first day) to this site and to all the neat things I've seen and heard here. I visited some of your music Matt, since you are obviously the grandad here. I am still trying to swallow. I like your producing and your music. I am being inspired already and I hope to be a part of this community.

We welcome you Elder Brown.

very chilling and relaxing. I don't know who she is but I would like to sing a duet with her. Your vocalist. I loved it. Great Job Matt.

matt's picture

Hey thanks a lot Edmund, yep MakeTunes has been a project of mine since late 2004 I think - you're very welcome to take part. Theres a great collection of musicians contributing already, and thousands of listeners everyday.

Cheers Sole - I sampled the vocals from her recording which she made on my computer, which was about a very serious and sad topic - suicidal thoughts - thus the lyrics "falling at light speed, what lies beneath the deep".

At the time of creating this track I was in a pretty dark place myself, and I think that's reflected in the soulful feel to the song I ended up with - it has true meaning to me at least.

Rich Honour's picture

Matt, this is a great track. I really like your stuff.

The Sole's picture

Well, It's nice to see you back seeing the sun in the sky and I hope you've learned from the experience. Heh Matt? Isn't there a way to put a list up of all the musicians on this site? Or extend the comment listing..or put a hotlink that allows you to view more comments? I am just making a suggestion.

matt's picture

Thanks Rich, glad you like it buddy!

Sole, yep life is much better these days! I will try and get something sorted regarding the musicians list... I've got a couple of possible solutions.

The Sole's picture

Cool. I will look for it. Thanx for your consideration Matt.

brownedmund's picture

Matt,
A very nice piece of work. I liked the way everything comes together. I liked the way the guitar sounds; it seems like everybody's guitars always sound better than mine.

The Sole's picture

Now Brownermund, your music is fine and your guitars are fine(from the photos they even look fine). In fact, I am a fan of yours...However, depending on the software you utilize to create your songs and edit your wav files, your results may very. For example.. in some of my earlier music the sounds aren't quite crisp enough, my voices as well. Later on ... (I use Adobe Audition 2.0) I started mastering expansion and width, and then hard limiting,,, then possibly adding chorus value. This not only clarifies the wavs of accentuates the sounds... You could do this for your guitar wavs and make them crisper... just suggesting. If you want you can send me a mp3 or wav of a guitar sample... and I will apply the setting changes I suggested and send you the finished product...
Also it could be your microphone.... although from your photos I am sure your microphone is more then adequate. It is probably your editing software.

brownedmund's picture

Thank you SoleMySole. I actually plug my guitar straight into my sequencer which is a Tascam 2488. I'm not very knowledgable about how exactly to bring out my guitar effects; I just use stomp type distortion pedays, and recently I use some delay, although I'm not sure if it really adds anything great to my playing.

The Sole's picture

Look for cool edit pro (free version) download it. THen use the options like hard limiting or choose an unusual flanger. Experiment with the different choices and you are effecting a specific wav file(your guitar wav). There is a mastering reverb option which does instruments nothing but justice, and it also brings the sounds more harmonically balanced and crisper... better quality.

Pitbull's picture

Hey matt, as almost always...great work!
these birds you are able to hear fit great!
i wished i had a flatmate who played guitar:)
where did you get these vocals from?

matt's picture

Cheers Pitty ;)

Yeah I wanted to use those birds and the sea and wind noises to create a real atmosphere of solitude and sadness, as the track was about just that.

It was cool being able to record my flatmates guitar playing - he could play some lovely intricate stuff, but hadn't had a chance to get a decent microphone or record his playing really before, so I was more than happy to help.

The vocals were from this girl who recorded a song onto my computer one day, and left a copy there, which I promptly sampled chunks out of ;)

Pitbull's picture

:)nice man
maybe someday ill find somebodys guitar playing to record...maybe my uncle...but well see if i got one ill let you know:)
see ya
