This is my entry into the $Times$ 2nd beat contest. I purposely left it uncluttered so if by chance it should win, the guys have room to flow. Normally I would've put some cool vocals on this so if it don't win I'll be back with an upgrade. If it makes the top four I'll be happy. Only one entry from me, time is limited. CRANK IT UP!
Oh buy the way guys, that string section is not a sample, it's the m-tron vsti I'm playing with my Yamaha keyboard. Produced in Sony Acid Pro 6 with various VST'I's including FM8 lead guitar patch programmed by yours truly, fed through a waves stomp box vst effect.

P.S- the organs that kick in at 15 seconds, reminded me *slightly* of Doom 2. Im a gamer srry! Anyway nice use of strings and expert drums bro.

i like the rythme, its just not enough u need more , like a destinct hook , i know i say that alot but the hook is that a hook . its the most catchy part of the track. other then that i like it

i really like this... the organ is tight, and the part with the pitch bending sounds really cool. it stays interesting the whole way through, obviously it would be even better with vocals like u said, but theres so much going on its something all by itself.... GOOD SHIT
Well thanks for listening and being honest king Dattoli. I hear you and It's a shame it's not what you're looking for this time. At least I wont have to get my hopes up anymore, that's a whole month of not wondering will I do well, cool! If I find time I'm going to put some vocals to it or maybe just leave it as it is. Well that's me out of the competition then lol. I'm sure it will still be a good beat battle though.

Coolboy I never said you were out of the compition . i said it needs ta be improved . I still think its real hot .and u have a month to either make this better or make another fresh one .Who ever wins wont give up . I understand King Dattoli, but if I summit a piece for a competition believe me it's because I personally feel it's ready. I said it would be my only entry and that's not changing either. I really like this track and I've got no intention of messing with it even if it means not doing well in the contest, I'm not quitting because I wasn't going to enter more than one track anyway or change this one but thanks for checking it out bro, and I'm glad you still think it's hot. That's all I could wish for, I can't complain.

Yes I'm 4th in the highest users window and it's nice. I've been very active, breaks aside, mostly checking out tracks old and new. I haven't really uploaded that many tracks in the time that I've been here but I've got a few and I think I've improved by leaps and bounds thanks to the crew here :)

yeah u have improved a lot , I havent posted alot of my old shit because ever since i got my own studio , I'm way better . Timeing wise and overall. But yeah when u make somethin u want me on ,just hit me up man . Teddy will proly get on it too. Just cause i think collabo tracks dont get boreing like a lot of solos do. Thats why u never hear solo singles on the radio. And if u do they always r never as hot as the remix. Get at me Coolboy

hey coolboy, just wondering bro how do you get your drums knocking so hard? and how do you pan the snares to either side? do you use 2 snares and pan them to either side? when i do that they cancel each other out and you cant hear them on the sides. i read in a previous post you use ozone 3 for mastering, i also have ozone is that your trick?what compressor and settings do you use on drums?
Any help would be much appreciated man and if not sweet as anyway, gotta get my drums hitting like the ones on this track.
I rarely programme drums from scratch. I can do it but just cant be bothered most of the time. Alot of my tracks have a basic drum loop and I build them up into what you hear. There's actually two lots of drums running in this track, there's the basic drum loop, then on top of that is a vst generated pattern with the kick removed plus I did add all the snare rolls which I painstakingly manually pitched and placed into the track to create the break downs.
I'm lazy when it comes to programming drums, but I do add my own flare when I think the track can benefit from it. To tell you the truth the first drum loop had the Ozone 3 magic put on it in acid pro 6 then the whole track again in the final mastering stage.
I remember using the Ozone 3 "Strong midrange tape saturation" setting and I tweaked the reverb to my own preference. It all worked out quite good. Sorry I can't be more specific.
