I decided to write a song in the exact same key as the steel flute/whistle which my friend has lent to me. i wanted to achieve a kind of old english folky blend, and basicly wanted to get as much out of this beautiful instrument as i could.

Thats awesome Jim! I gotta say I love using flute sounds as well, though I only have some flute synthesis going on ;) What a great sound your steel flute is putting out, and you've worked it into a very enjoyable track too. On that note, I'm going to listen to it again!
Just listening again I couldn't help but chuckle when it changes smoothly from the very folky feel to the mellow modern downbeat style, via the "rewind" sample. Stylish that you managed to make it seem so natural in its transition ;) Nu Skool Folk
you honour me matt, i wasnt sure about posting this track but im glad i did now, you put a smile on my face thank you m8. yes it was a journey from folk to downbeat impleased you think it works cool as..
Nice , my only hope is that, those big guns at EMI would shut that R.Williams down and go surf the net for a day or two...
Haha spot on Geo - Shut Robbie down, or *put* him down ;)
Either way, humanity will benefit!
LMAO :)
I don't have much time to listen to stuff on the forum (although I do try a bit each few days) and I rarely comment (and half the time put my f# foot in it) but Jim, this is bloody brilliant! As Matt say's that transition from the mesmerick almost celtic sound to the more contemporary sound is just perfect.
Reading your bio I am amazed that you managed to produce a piece of such outstanding quality on such limited equipment. More than just one serious musical talent (which you are undeniably) you have outstanding production skills as well!
Someone aught to tell someone about you. Wish I lived in Plymouth my man, because I would hunt you down for sure and toast your genius! Sadly the commercial possibilities are limited as the world has lost it's appetite for intelligence and craves only mediocrity wrapped in tinsel. Oooh shiny things - must have!!
I've listened to a few of your numbers now and they are all very good - I also really like the production you did on 57 - listened to both the old and new. Very nicely produced again - You have a big talent for production. my (unsolicited) advice would be to get qualified in that area (if you aren't already) and get into the industry that way. You songs speak for themselves. You can always perform your own stuff once you are known. anyway, go you, you've definitely got what it takes!!
Ciao
Hey Jim, that was Beautiful! Im new to the site, but my father ^^ the man with the extensive comment, was playing Stay and I heard it and wondered into his studio demanding to know who wrote it. Amazing, I love how simple it is. You have talent, and I really hope you make it doing what you love.
A great tune alright, and some encouraging words...
Cassee - welcome to MakeTunes :)
Thank you you Casse, Michael and Matt, it always puts a kick in your step to know that people out there feel a connection with you songs, Michael you speak a lot of truth about the appetite for mediocrity today, even more reason tho fight against it the way i see it. And in a way we have won the battle, because great people like "Matt" here at maketunes has bypassed the idiot record companies, and all the amazing music out there is being heard despite the record labels. Only a matter of years ago this would have been virtually impossible its awesome. thank you casse it was good of you to take the time to write to me, it means alot,, And welcome to maketunes.. thanks guys Respect from J!M
