Props bro! Thank you! I loved the automation fading. The drum beat work was different and unique, and the main synth was haunting. THEN came the real haunting synth! I took my headphones off my ears for a second because I thought one of my daughters were screaming(they are supposed to be in bed and asleep) ...that scared the shit out of me coming as if from the darkness. I loved the slowing down finale too. The tempo halting to finish off your best work yet bro!

Haha, it was never meant it to be a scary noise. Anyway, thanks man. It was one of those days where your creation is at its peak, so I started the track with the drums and everything seemed to flow in without any efforts. Glad you like it.

I also love the drum work. Very unique, great to hear people expirementing, thats always a great thing to do to improve ones skillz! You always stumble over things you didnt even intend to do/ use in the first place and voilà! Great track, nice melody the synth in the end is very nice!

What mode is that synth in at 1:52? That is f'n crazy... By mode I mean like floydian, myxlidian lidian... never mind, I'm talking on whole 'nother topic all together. Music theory... Great production work! not my style, but I can appreciate the work you've got here. Keep it up!

I took music theory in high school... Modes are a sub-format of keys. A very specific scale, if you will. Like, Am7 Lidian. "Am",or A minor, is the key followed by "7", Which is the progression, then the mode, Lidian. A lot of asian music is Myxlidian... played up on the black keys mostly depending on the key its in.

That synth was just an odd, yet complex, scaling of notes, I was gambling on you knowing music theory.

Hell Cap! You just went over my head bro! But I can dig it. Are you talking about like with an arpeggio, but the sub levels and such?

CapricornOne's picture

Think of it this way. Think of a C Major scale. A different mode of that C scale would be a different way to play it. C Major Mixolydian is played all up on the black keys. Sounds sorta asian... ya know? Different modes are mostly used in jazz. But Trey Anastasio from Phish is notorious for using odd modes to get that "way-out-there" sound.

I'm rough in this topic, for it's been way to long since I studied it. This explains it WAAAYYYY better: http://www.wisegeek.com/what-are-the-seven-modes-of-music.htm

Wow! That was authoritative wasn't it! Gotcha bro! Interesting shit... I'm gettin' schooled! Wait! I am too old for that! I am getting skool'd!

DJ Caesar's picture

Yeah, Cap, I get it. Today I was using FL Studio and I discovered a feature with "Mixolydian" and stuff, I used it and started understanding it.

I use the minimal knowledge of music theory i learned, oooohhhh about 8 or 9 years ago, all the time. It helps when composing a melody or bass line to an already composed loop. Jamming, if you will. Just simple knowledge of keys progressions and, of course, modes. If you can identify what those are in the loop you chose, composing your accompaniment goes hella smooth!

A buddy of mine, who I haven't seen since he went in a 28 day program (drinky drunky), he had his bachelors in Music Theory. That dude knew what the fuck he was doing! Hope he's all right. Man had more talent in his left pinky then I have in my whole being. He could wail on the ol' 6 string as good as Stevie Ray... I shit you not. I heard a Stevie Ray song being played in the background when i was on the phone with him. It wasn't the radio... it was him, while he was talking to me. Oh Shane... and your whiskey... Seriously hope he's good. Too much talent to waste on a 750ml bottle.

I think the instruction of note progressions comes naturally to me. I really do. I can find the melody in anything really easy. That is one reason singing to collabs is no problem for me.
Sorry to go off on a personal rampage, but back to the subject at hand. Your friend is a genious with music, and playing the guitar, and yet lacks the will power to sustain from alcohol. It is a viscious balance, one in which we all need to be together to make everything strong and blot out the weakness, with our strengths and our talents. I don't know why I get philosophical, it just happens sometimes...
