OKay so this is my attempt at Drum and Bass this will be my only entry to the contest!!! The inspiration behind this piece is the new movie District 9, it's crazy because I was working on project for the contest and then I saw this trailer and I was immediately compelled to stop that and and start something new infusing the District 9 story in my own way and this is what I came up with!!
I'm new to Drum and Bass producing and have found a new respect for producers that make this kind of music it's super hard, so that being said LET me know What I did right and what I did wrong D&B wise!
OR leave a comment about anything else good or bad! I love criticism it only makes me better!!

Ok... You arrangement and technique is on point! More on the side of breaks, but still in the realm of DnB. Superb use of samples, and the FX are solid. When I saw you entered one in, I was hoping you'd do something with a reggae or latin style to it. That's a big part of DnB, especially jungle, but this is great! A nice surprise from you. Definite contender. Props!

Easiest way to rip samps out of a movie (or other sources)... is to use a free wav editor and recording program called Audacity. They got it for PC, Mac, and Linux. 100% free. (Get version 1.2 stable) Play the video, whether it be a DVD, a video file on your computer or a vid on youtube, or other like video hosting sites, and press record in Audacity. Just make sure Audacity is set to record from "Stereo Mix" (drop down menu on the top of the main screen) and go into edit --> preferences and select "2 (stereo)" under channels, so it'll record in stereo. Then you can record anything that your computer is playing.

Deezy, this bit of info might help you. DnB is just double speed hip-hop with a more techno like bass, and more filtering on the synthesizers. Don't believe me, take any DnB song and half the tempo in WinAMP or VLC or any player that can slow it down... the instrumentation will sound like shit half the time at half speed, but just listen to the rhythm. Dnb = 2x hip-hop... Oh and dark and creepy works in DnB.... I like the dark stuff better even!

Deezy you're talking to the right person. I make a living in computer repair. If you can get to a PC with internet, go here for vista http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=139681 and here for XP http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=139313 and download all the programs and updates to a flash drive or burn them to a CD, then follow the instructions. Print them out if you have to, or just bring it up on the iphone. That'll clear you up. If you have any issues during the clean-up, you can e-mail me at c4pr1c0rn.0n3 AT gmail DOT com. That sux.... I've lost all of my data more than once. The first time, someone got an ass beating for it. Because I was using his server as online backup storage back in the late 90's and he gave me 20gb of space, and back then that was like giving me a 1tb storage spot. We'll I hadn't accessed it in months and months. Then one day, my hard drive decides to go fuck itself and me in the process. Go to log on to my account on his server... nothing there. Call him up, "Oh I though you didn't need it anymore" Kid got his ass beat bad!

I just saw this movie. Oh MAN! Instantly amongst my favourite movies. One of the best Sci-Fi moves I've seen. If you like an action movie that also wants you to reflect on human nature, go see this movie! Love this track DjWillie.
