The future is here people. Autonomous musical robots with built in samplers are roaming the Earth creating drum tracks by hitting nearby objects that they find, sampling the sounds, and looping them! The first bit of this video is a bit of a non event, but once the little robot musician gets under way it's well worth checking out!

Below is a video of the "Yellow Drum Machine" robot in action!

What the sampling musical robot actually does:

* Navigate around, collect some data, avoid obstacles.
* Finds something "worth playing on" (an isolated object or a wide flat surface).
* Snakes into place.
* Plays some beats on what it has found, and samples this, checking it has a "good sound".
* Based on data collected in the area, and sample just made, then composes a little rhythm, and plays this along with the sample.

That thing is awesome. Short circuit was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid.

Yeah its crazy huh! I like how it plays along with the previously sampled drum track it's made.

I wasn't sure how well known that old 1986 classic Short Circuit was, but had to go with that title ;)
