I have been here a year now since yesterday. I am going to calculate the total number of collaborations versus regular songs versus songs created when I was 12 years old versus the vocal performances and list them in my blog. This will take some time to categorize but I had to wait until the year was fully up. I am curious and want to know.
P.S. I don't plan on doing barely any collaborations anymore. Too busy with my own shenanigans. Also the songs that I make I will post for at least a week here first to download, but the tracks going to ourstage.com to be entered into contests will soon thereafter become unavailable to download here as I have a chance to make money over there selling them as well. When people hear the music they have to have no other avenue then to judge and if they want it to have to purchase it instead of coming over here to download it for free. I aint gettin' any younger and I am always bitching about not having enough money.

A year eh, you've certainly made your mark on our community so far :) Glad we've got you aboard dude.
Good luck to you with the sales etc, but don't forget that many people fall into the trap of cutting off too many opportunities for building a fanbase/following too soon. Danger of that is of course artificially limiting the growth of the following, and really putting a dampener on their progress before it takes off. Theres just so many people making all sorts of music / video / creative content these days, so theres obviously a challenge out there for folks trying to make an impression on new listeners to stand out and retain listeners. Not only that but start the word spreading by itself.... as often happens with acts which take off.
Personally I think what with digital downloads not costing anything to distribute, a lot of home musicians could do better in the mid to long term by building up more and more listeners, and then after the following builds and begins to grow naturally by itself, then consider selling songs.
Totally up to you of course, and I'm not lecturing here lol - just my thoughts on the subject.
Also with these sorts of things it might be wise to try various options, see what works and what doesn't.
Tis true tis true. I haven't got it all figured out yet. BUt I was thinking of stopping some that should be downloaded but aren't. It really hurts me to see something that I thought I did really well and sounds great and like 9 months later there is nothing downloaded from it. Discouraging really and I get the impulse to take it away (kinda like a getting even action) ...like telling the peeps, "Hey you had your chance to download it and ya blew it. Now ya can't!" Pretty F N juvenile sure... but that gets to me. A prime track example is "1 minute Nursery ryhmes" with spank d. The song is just so damn good. Only one minute of Marilyn Manson greatness, but the damn thing rocks and is TOTALLY original and yet no downloads. I feel like taking it out of peoples hands. They had the chance. Then songs like Karma. Over 2000 downloads, but people are only downloading it because they see how high of a download amount it is and they figure, " this is the best of Sole. Gotta have that!" -Yet I have waaaay better tracks then that one. It's like the mentality of "hey everyone is jumping off a bridge-let's do it too" Meanwhile greater tracks go unscathed and/or noticed. Partially it could be because how fast I whip these tracks out. Wow! a new track from Sole? Who would have guessed?? Taking things for granted. Next to Karma the nursery ryme song and hurting and for what? BLOG BLOG BLOG......
Thanks for the blog option Matt! It felt good to vent about this.
No worries man, thats just one thing blogs are very handy for :)
Yup I hear what you're saying. I certainly don't think its anything to take personal - some times in the past I've been discouraged about the odd lull in activity on maketunes, but I'm so glad I kept at it because the community has continued to solidify around us, and will continue to into the future. I will continue to run maketunes and keep it growing for as long as I walk this Earth :)
I think the reality is people stumble around in their lives with so many things distracting them, and requiring their attention, that many things around them get haphazardly focused on for a moment and then they're off again. Persistence and a unique approach/style is the key to many aspects of success in todays bustling world in my opinion. More than 6 billion people scrambling around trying to make their money, feed their kids, love, laugh, live.... and another 75 million people approx added to that before the end of the year.... its tricky to stand out in the crowd.
But hey... only 10 years ago, it was next to impossible to even contact a worldwide audience, without the freedom of communication that the net brought along! So its all good in the hood as they say ;)
You aren't kidding. There is great satisfaction in saying that I have collaborated with musicians all across the globe. It is awesome! I recon that I will keep the downloading available here since this is my home. BUt other sites I will sell my music(haven't really started yet), and that will make them come here too. If I make it big though, then I will have to change that thought pattern some I am sure...at the advice of my agent!
The 1 minute 1 second nursery rimz was collaborated with P!tbull by the way. I was thinking different in the earlier comment.
My Showcase
HAY BROTHER SOLE ,I FEEL YOU MAN . SOME TIMES YOU JUST DONT NO WHAT TO DO BROTHER . I FEEL THE SAME WAY ALL THE TIME ABOUT ALL THE THINGS YOU ARE TALKEING ABOUT BRO . I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING WHEN IT COMES TO MY DOWNLOADS AND STUFF TO . SOUNDS LIKE WE ARE FEELING THE SAME WAY ON THINGS AND LIFE IT SELF
Collaborative music is a good idea which is mentioned in my blog early.I do indian music and I request music enthusists to collaborate with me for producing wonderful track with indian melody and western accompaniment fused together.
Musicians of today are very lucky because they have all the sharp tools like loops and samplers and so on.When I started making music I had to do everything manually
Perhaps true, though most of my music is all specific piano note placement to create the desired songs. THe program helps out-FLfor playing what I program but that is it. Lots of work involved. Too much time,,, not enough!
