Akai MPD24 & Uniquest

I just purchased the mpd25 this week at guitar center, but they only had the display item available. So after talking the sales person down on the price (b/c all that came with the mpd was the usb chord) i purchased it. Now i do understand that the uniquest software is not really needed but i was wonderin if there was anyway that i could download the software off of the net somewhere and the akai kits?? As i stated all that i have is the mpd24 and the usb chord that came with it (no box or software, just a usb chord and a nice plastic sales bag).

I myself bought the displayed one also, But I got the BFD lite software with it... the only thing I dont have is the Box... But if they have a stock for it they just gonna call me and trade it with a new one with box...

Hey welcome to MakeTunes brain-child - I'll see what I can find...

Well I can't find the Uniquest MPD24 software anywhere at all for download... actually if I were you I wouldn't worry too much about it, I've only ever started the software up once or twice, haven't done much with it. The unit itself is the entertaining part!

I'll see if the BFD lite drum kits are available for download, which are whats included also in the CDs...

Looks like BFDlite is only available with selected purchased hardware, like the MPD24 - they do have a BFD demo which is 100mb download available that might be of use to you? Not quite the same as the BFDlite software/drumkits though.

Really though, you can just use any software sampler, even like the free Grizzly VST, and just download some sweet drum kits and load them into it, creating your own custom kits.

If you want to buy a kickass software sampler to use with your MPD24, I use the excellent Battery, well worth checking out.

You can download the Battery3 Demo here

Hey brain child, How musch did you pay for it ? I paid $199 the same as the boxed one but if they'll have the stocks they just gonna inform me to trade it to a new one... How bout you ? is that your situation also ? BTW, Uniquest is useless..LOL

As long that your mpd24 is workin, no need for the extras came wit the box... ^_^

i got mine for $189. thats it. no, "bring it back when we get a new shipment in" or nuthin...jus $189 as is...take it or leave it...so i took it ya know. im still trying to get the hang of it...trying to get sum samples programmed into a bank so i can load them all up and assign them to diff pads ya know...(for example) pad 4 is sampled sound #1 and pad 15 is sampled sound #6...is this at all possible??

Yeah man, you'll need some software to load the samples into of course - you can even do this with the free sampler Grizzly.

Have you got your samples on the computer yet? If not, you could use Audacity to sample whatever incoming audio signal you've got, and/or chop up your audio into useable chunks, then load those chunks into Grizzly (one per pad etc), and you'll be able to play all your samples by hitting the pads. Grizzly is a VST by the way, so it needs to be loaded in a VST host, like Fl studio, Cubase, the free Reaper, or whatever you use as a sequencer.

good lookin matt. ill load that into fruity loops. and i already got them chopped up. thanks 4 the info.

No worries man, you should upload some of your tracks to MakeTunes too once you get it sorted, and feel free to post in the forums any time.

are there any other vst's besides grizzly that i can use whether they are freeware or not (im not trippin on buying something) because grizzly freezes my comp...something similar...or better??

Native Instruments Battery 3 is where its in my opinion. I'm only running Battery 2, but that is still freakin awesome. Battery 3 is improved with like 12 GBs of pro drum kits included, plus you can build your own sample banks, and save them with all your own samples in them if you have a bunch of samples you want to drop into it. Highly recommended.

I have the exact same problem with my MPD24, bought it with out a CD, the thing is taht to upgrade the firmware you need the Uniquest softaware and tadaaa!! I don't have it, Vyzex just wont do it with me as you can read in this thread

http://www.maketunes.com/forums/mpd24vyzex-trouble-installing-new-firmwa...

So any location of the uniquest software or the MPD24 CD would be of GREAT help
