apple vs pc

Age ol' question: do I go broke and step it up to a mac book pro or do I hang in there with my pc laptop and just keep beefing it up? Do I go for simplicity ---------- or keep working with glitchy windows vista --------- ?

Really what I want to know is the mac really worth it? Honestly?

[Admin Edit - please don't discuss copying software on MakeTunes, see Terms]

Well... Seeing as all of today's pc's come with Vista... It would be best to get a mac... but you don't need to go broke doing it. Craig's List would be a great place to start looking for a Refurbished Mac. A 2 year old mac is still better than a new PC. And with craig's list, you meet with the seller and can look at the merchandise before you buy it, where as with eBay, your just hoping for the best... doesn't matter how much positive feedback a seller has, they can fake that. Also, the Mini Mac is about $700 and is quite powerful. It's not a laptop, but its small enough to drag with you. My cousin can fit his, with the keyboard and mouse, in a large laptop bag. And he could probably fit a 15" flat panel in there as well.

As for beefing up a laptop, the memory and the hard drive are pretty much all you can upgrade in the way of speed and raw power... upgrading a CPU on a laptop is VERY pricey. ($100 - $300 for a new mobile CPU)

Now as for your hacked programs... keygens are technically PC only... BUT with the Mac program CrossOver, you might be in luck. I see quite a large amount of mac programs available for D/L on many different torrent sites. Also... you already have a pc, so you could run all your keygens on that and just type the numbers in on the Mac.

Now here's some food for thought. PCs have come a LOOOONG way in the field of audio production and recording, and with the right specs and good hardware, they're just as good as macs, but Vista sucks giant gorilla balls! SOOOOOOOO......... downgrade to XP, and use a modded version at that. I find LastXP to be the best, but Black XP and XP Ice are pretty good as well. All three are readily available on many torrent sites.... wait... Tater, didn't I give you instructions on LastXP already? Did it not go well? Anywho... Don't worry about hacked programs... You can hack them all the same on a mac. And lose Vista at all costs. It is not good for audio production AT ALL!! We'll see what happens with Vista when SP2 comes out. XP kinda sucked until SP2... not as bad as Vista sucks, but it wasn't all that when it came out. Microsoft has a long track record of releasing OS's before they are truly ready. Remember Windows ME? That was the worst ever. So bad I would have rather used Windows 3.1.

Yea, I tried lastxp, but whenever I get to the menu screen to start installing lastxp and then I can't select or navigate the menu options as if my keyboard stopped working. Weird. Ill try blackxp or ice to see if it works

Guys come on, I have asked nicely, please refrain from discussing copying software on MakeTunes. What you do off-site is your own business, but it's not something that can be a part of this communities discussions. I don't ask much, but this is one rule which I'd appreciate you respecting - Thanks.

Oh BTW, my bad Matt about mentioning keygens and all in my above post. I'll stop.. I mean it for real this time... That being said, people... If we wanna talk about file sharing and all, we should probably do it through e-mail. You know I got info on that stuff, and I'm sure most everybody else does too. Matt's kinda right. This is a home studio site, not a P2P discussion site. Again, my bad Matt. At least I'm not posting links to torrents anymore.
