Could use some input on my possible set up

Hey there, Im interested in making some beats and im looking around for what I am going to use in my set. Im planning on getting a mpd24 and using my macbook as a workstation. Now the software is what im stuck on. I want to used reason as the main program and I want to use NI battery 3 in order to trigger my drum and sample tracks. Can any one tell me if these programs are compatible? In not I am open to suggestions.

Hey Dragon welcome to maketunes...

Battery and Reason are both great programs, but unfortunately Reason doesn't support loading of VST instruments (eg Battery, etc).

What you're needing is a VST host, or sequencer. Some people swear by FLstudio, I really like Sony Acid Pro, others rate Cubase or Sonar etc. This acts as the base of your software studio. You can then load other software instruments, synths, samplers etc into your song.

I believe FLstudio actually has a builtin sampler called FPC, which you can use instead of Battery. Heres an example of someone who really knows how to use FLstudio / FPC and the MPD24.

And his guide on setting up mpd24 with flstudio.

Its actually possible if you're running one of the sequencers I listed, to load Reason into that via Rewire, and Battery as a VST sampler etc... so you can have them running alongside each other in that setup - just not Reason/battery alone.

Thats one of the main limitations of Reason, as well as not being able to record audio input directly (eg vocals etc). Other than that its capable of doing all sorts of cool things.

Yeah you might check out LOGIC too since you are a mac user. I'm not and I can't, but I hear it is the very best!

Oh yeah good point - I don't think I realized it was to be built around a macbook...

Thanks a lot for the advice. I think i may go with logic express. Anyone out already using logic? I got somethings I want to clear up before I buy the software
