Hi there,
does anybody know of a mathematical formula to calculate delays and distances?
Here´s what I´m looking for:
Let´s say I record my guitar amp with a mic placed directly in front of the speaker, another mic will be placed farther away in the room.
Now the sound will hit the "room mic" later than the close mic, right?
I need to know how far I must move the room mic away from the speaker (or from the close mic) so the delay of the sound that gets caught by the room mic will be in time with the song (say it should be delayed for a 16th note...).
So there must be some formula that considers time (seconds or milliseconds), distance (meters or centimeters), tempo (bpm) and their interrelation...
Does anyone know it?

hmmm.... making me break out my calc skills. well sound moves at a constant rate of 1116.44 feet/sec at sea level. so at 120 bpm its rolling at 2 beats/sec which is 32 ticks in one sec. if my math is correct. the two mics should be 34.88875 feet from each other at sea level to ping at a 1/16th note apart. (32 into 1116.44) it's all about breaking everything down to the same increment of time. in this case seconds. then apply simple math.... i think.
It'll do what it do till it done
You keep it pimp... I'm a keep it gangata!

it might be half that distance. that might be pinging at 1/8th instead of 1/16th. I haven't been in a math class in 9 years. but that should at least get you on the right path
