Fruity Loops 7xxl & Vangaurd VST

Hi everyone, I have recently installed Fruity Loops 7xxl on my computer along with Vangaurd VST. But I wanted to know if anyone had a manual or guide on how to use FL7, I'm a big time newbie at this and i've been searching all day for info on how to get Vangaurd VST working on FL7, There has been a post here on how to get it working, but it doesn't do it for me, if anyone could give me a few pointers it would greatly appreciated.

Hi Brianmed, have you worked with MIDI at all before? I think its much the same story in FLstudio as it is in other sequencing programs as far as midi goes. I'll have a go and see how it works. I only have the flstudio 7 demo installed, but I'm sure it should be similar.

Are you using a MIDI keyboard, or just wanting to create the vanguard melodies using the mouse?

Ok, so first of all you'll want to make the Vanguard VST available to be used in FLstudio.

To do this, click Channels > Add One > More, and then tick the box next to Vanguard VST which should be in the big list that has popped up. You can then close that popup window.

Then when you're back in the normal FLstudio view, click Channels > Add One > Vanguard to load the Vanguard instrument.

Thats as far as I've got (although I'm actually using a different VST as I don't have Vanguard - but I bet its the same process to load any VST in flstudio).

When I get a chance I'll try and record a midi track of VST notes, and post how to do that...

If you're just wanting to then draw a melody of notes using the mouse, just right click the button for Vanguard on the window thats open in Flstudio. Select Piano Roll, and you can draw in a melody, and hit the Play button up the top of FLstudio to start it looping so you can hear what you're making.

I'll post how to record a midi track in flstudio using a midi keyboard and VST such as vanguard soon.

Oh ok, its super easy to record a midi track of your VST in flstudio using your midi keyboard.

Make sure your Vanguard button is highlighted, and then just click the Record button up the top of Flstudio, and hit Play.... then play some notes on your midi keyboard. They'll be recorded as midi notes on the piano roll, which you can get to either by right-clicking the Vanguard button and selecting Piano Roll, or click the mini piano roll which will have now appeared next to your Vanguard button (replacing the simple step sequencer that is shown by default).

No problem, glad to help. If you have any questions about other parts of flstudio or whatever, feel free to post a new forum thread

Yea Fl's Interface Makes Plugins More "Piano-Roll" Friendly.. If Can Ever Get Your Paws On Reaktor 5, I Suggest You Try Those Instruments In Fl.. :O

matt's picture

Yeah thats right - I learned a bunch of other programs before even checking out FL recently, but I can see why its so popular. Its relatively straight forward to get into (compared to some of the other sequencers at least), and potentially very flexible.

Yup - Reaktor, or indeed virtually any of Native Instruments synths and samplers are just freakin great.

Reaktor is like Vanguard no? i'm in search of hardstlye sounds and such, i figured out how to get a mean pounding bass with Cytrus Depthcore, if you guys can give me any advise on how to make awesome melodies and beats would be awesomem, I'm working on a track at the moment to. My influences are DJ Zany, Donkey Rollers, DJ pavo, to name a few.

Haven't used Vanguard myself, but the Reaktor VST is a highly customizable set of software synths, covering a HUGE range of synth types - lead synths, pads, strange instruments, ambient, tons of glitchy type stuff amd loads more. Mostly digital sounds, rather than warm virtual analogue synth type stuff.

Awesome, I'll check it out. Thanks alot :)

I installed Reaktor 5, and succesfully loaded it up with Fruit Loops, but I have to ask, how do I use this program? does it come with effects? or what's the deal?

matt's picture

It does have effects as well yes, but the main part of Reaktor is the many synths. You just load up the Reaktor VST within FLstudio, and then load the specific synth within Reaktor that you want to use. Each of the Reaktor synths has many patches, or presets, which change the sound of that synth markedly.

Then you just follow the same steps as with Vanguard VST that we discussed earlier, as far as drawing/recording the midi notes to create a melody, which triggers the chosen synth notes.

Alright, sounds cool. I'll mess around with it to see what I get, thanks again.

yea it usually interfaces the Reaktor VST through the Fruity Wrapper; u should try right-click/insert/more.... and hopefully u'll see the reaktor on the list..
