This may be a dumb question but i am a dumb guy. is there any way to set up the mpd 24 on garage band. All i can do is play their drum kits now. can i customize my own and use the faders and knobs? If this is a really dumb question can someone tell me what they think is the best software to use with the mpd24 if i want to sample. it is a dumb question. can someone just answer that last question?

I really hope someone answers this question. I don't think it's a dumb question and I need the info about it.
It's not a dumb question, I think questions about the MPD 24 are the most common on here. I don't have one so I can't help, but perhaps looking through some of the answers might help a little:

-just a thought-
I know GarageBand has some limitations with products that aren't by Apple... It's one of those programs like iTunes, iMovie, etc that are designed for use with Apple only... (I know I know, iTunes is Windows compatable, but it wasn't supposed to be until the iPod blew up like it did.) Try looking up how to assign certain parameters in Garageband to specific controls on the MPD, you can probably use the help menu in GB or any documentation that came with the program...
In some of my software, all I have to do is right-click (or Control-click) on a fader or a knob and then move the control on the controller to assign it to that parameter.
I have found a way that kind of works. It works for the pads but not the faders or knobs to my knowledge. First you create a software instrument and select the sound effects instrument. At the bottom choose details and make sure that the generator is set to sound effects. Also make sure the effects are set as none, unless you want to do something to your samples. Then save your instrument as whatever you want to name it. Select your new instrument on the left to make sure it it highlighted. After this select window>musical typing. You can drag things you have imported into the loop library onto the keys, they will turn a darker shade when you go over them.
To get the samples i would drag the audio into a basic track ant then split the parts i wanted and drag those into the loop library.
to match the keys with the pads i pulled the musical typing keys all the way to the left of the keyboard to have the "lowest" keys selected, just to have something to base off. i edited one of the pre-sets in the mpd 24 to match the white keys starting with the lowest note. Just edit the notes starting in the bottom left and moving right on the pad. start note:000 then 002, 004, 005, 007, 009, 011, 012, 014, 016, 017, 019... and that pattern continues across the white keys. Just drag what you want on those keys in this order. Make sure to save your instrument after you import sounds.
I hope this helps somewhat.

Well... You've proved yourself wrong, you obvoiusly aren't dumb. Good work. PEACE.
still no answer... wonder if it's just not possible...
it'd be really cool to at least be able to use the play, stop, rec, <, >, buttons on the mpd to control GB.
anyone?
so what's the final word on using the mpd24, not only the pads, but all of its functions on GB?
I know there's a midi controller made by M-audio specifically for GB, is anybody have that?
hey, big ups to you all for the support and feedback. This is a very positive community of musicians and producers and I'm happy to be a part of it.

I don't know Basten... Currently, I'm still trying to get the transport controls on my MPD24 to work with Reason 3.0... I've got the pads working, and the knobs and faders, but not the play, stop, record, etc...
Any words of advice for the same question, only for Reason instead of GB?
Hey guys, not a Reason user, but I'm afraid without knowing how to really get into the programming (and midi stuff ) in GB no fader fun for you, but in logic you just go into the menu, click whatever function and turn a knob. it senses which one and sets it to that in example: play pause volume and track specific effects etc.
