I was just wondering if there would ever be a guitar competition on MakeTunes? I have noticed that there have been numerous competitions on the site, and for the musicians in the genre of techno or hip hop and Dj, that's awesome. How about something for the guitar players? I know there's quite a few guitar players on this site...I believe they would get a kick out of it....and so would the listeners. Maybe I'm way off base here, it's just my opinion.

Absolutely! I'd love to encourage more participation in the diverse musical tastes that keep maketunes refreshingly inspirational :) I've been aware that the comps have been skewed towards the electronic/hiphop genres, but I certainly haven't forgotten you guitarists!
This has been on my to-do list for some time. I have some sweet prizes in mind as well, I should be able to get some exciting donated audio products which would be useful to the guitarists around here.
I do wonder how judging should be setup. I was thinking perhaps of trying a poll, or other member voting system. I appreciate the musical talent you guys have, and enjoy listening, but I'm not sure I would be qualified to judge such a comp that's all?
How many people play guitar on here? I can only think of 7 off hand. You, Swamp, DMT, Jeffo, Spinelli, Mike S, and Teddy. Are there more? It'd be great even if that's it. You 7 could go have a guitar battle royal! I'd be a listener for sure... A judge even! Wait... Did I just quote Snagglepuss?

Yeah loads more than that Doc - with varying degrees of activity of course. Jimsta, Sumgai, talmanibanez, micky_blue all spring to mind... and I'd guess there'd be maybe around 100 more, some active/some not?

How about this? A rock contest. This contest must have guitar of some type in it. Whether electronic or actual. All rock genres welcome. -just a thought.
I think its about time the guitarists had a contest though Sole :) The electronic musicians have been spoiled for choice for a long time... thats my take on it. Maybe a rock one like you suggest could come later?

I would dust off the old strat and have a go at something but yeah I think I would need a beat, or else we can have extra guitar tracks providing percussion with strumming or something. My timing would be all over the place too. Reminds me to get the strings replaced if this is happening....Love, Ingrid

Yeah I was presuming it would likely be a track that the guitarist could show off their guitar skills, with some form of drum track or whatever to set the rhythm.
I'll need to confirm that prize sponsorship - I have something in mind - and I'll keep you posted here, once thats sorted we should be able to get underway pretty quickly.
The prize should be... A NEW CAR!

You'd have to wow the judges.... I'm thinking a guitar track like Satriani... not necessarily that genre and style, but that kind of flair and shomwna ship on the ol 6 string. Again... I'm like a retarded monkey in a tinfoil helmut when it comes to guitar! My only suggestion to this contest, is lets have a judges vote, and a popular vote. In other words, the judges would pick the winner, but the people would cast there one vote for who they think is the clear winner also, giving us a "People's Choice". If we just did the peoples choice with no judges vote, then it'd be a mess. But it'd be nice to see what the people think for once. You see where I'm going with this? The "People's Choice Winner" would just be a bragging rights thing. I suggest it for this contest, because this has the potential to be one of the largest and greatest contests the site has seen, making the peoples choice vote very feasible.

Yeah Doc. The people's choice will encourage people to listen to others track but there should also be a restriction which is "You cannot vote for yourself" lol.

Ok guys, I'm just about set to start this competition... got some great prizes too! Just needing to sort out the judges... I'm happy to be one of the judges. I'd like all the guitarists to be able to enter this comp, but if someone else who has some guitar background/appreciation and won't be entering the comp would like to help me judge this, that'd be great.
I will Matt. I offer un-bias fair judgement and I will thoroughly state my decisions and judge with you. I will break it down for each entry as far as skill, technique, and catchiness etc. I have a great appreciation for anything guitar and even play some. But I wont be entering this contest. So if you want I will help judge.
Of course Matt I have judged many times before so if you wanna let someone else do it for the opportunity that is okay by me too.
