Hi there,
You'll be better off starting your own record label (if you have enough money :)...
how much u think youd need?
oh man cant i just work for someone in start for some company i
about a million bucks maybe how many do i need
You make a damn good portfolio and shop it to labels that you really think are going to be interested in that type of music.
Shop that to the labels, specify that you are looking to work as a freelance producer. Maybe express why you'd be good for the label.
Freelance means you aren't a full time employee, but you're hired for a specific job.
That will familiarize the label with your name, and it could possibly get you work...
More likely though... The label would probably need to be signing with an artist that negotiated with them to have you produce the album... If he pulls that off then you're in, with a production budget and all.
You can also produce a bad ass demo for an artist... And when that artist uses it to attract a label, they will know that you played a significant role in the demo production, and maybe consider having you in their studio to produce the label's record... And maybe that label will have heard from you before if you've been active with other artists or have contacted them already.
Your goal is to become a respected name at your prospective label... Keep in mind that it usually takes time and effort for that to happen.
Oh yeah, and if the label already has plenty of producers that do the exact same thing you do, then they won't want you until something falls through with the ones they have... So be sure to stand out.
Yeah some good points there - its certainly going to take most people a long time and a lot of hard work to establish themselves as a respected artist/producer in virtually any label or outfit. I think some people get the stars in their eyes effect, and start imagining lounging around their own dedicated private pro studio with a blunt and 15 supermodels around them ;) That won't arrive without a whole lot of planning, practice, and business-like self promotion to get known
Yeah... That private studio will probably be your home studio... Make it 16, and 2 blunts.
Yeah thank you very much Amittai bro, well it wont be so easy as i thought it would be,i will need a lot of luck and i hope every true talented personne will have a chance to make it to the top,i just have another 2 questions my english is a lil low, what is blunt, what did you meaned by shop it to the labels and what ya meaned by 16,2 blunts, thanks again bro i think this will help every starter to know what he needs to do
A blunt is a cigar which has the tobacco hollowed out and is filled with weed - popular with rappers and often mentioned in rap lyrics ;)--~
The "16" comment was just in relation to my joke about people expecting to have 15 hot models in their studio right away :)
"Shop it to the labels" could mean a few things, but I guess generally it means trying to get your demos heard and *noticed* by the record labels...
Right on. Matt speaks Amittai. Yeah.
Yo A-Z, you just got to have alot of heart and you got to be okay with being ignored or rejected alot... But just keep trying anyway, that's the key. If you give up, a 50% chance turns to zero.
ok yeah cool thanks Matt you and Amittai are my best friends on this website i apreciate it very much
Peace Bro
yeah like i said bro you n Matt are my best friends here i apreciate a lot your help n tips thanks and i agree yes with this job it needs a lot of patience you got that rite¨

Emergex's quote is spot on!!!
making money from this game should be thought of last...the passion of writing your music should always be at the forefront of your mind..
You just gotta get a good profile..your best tracks..and network all over!!and Amittai's words of wisdom are too true..be ready for knock backs..
But if you fancy a fair bit of hard boring work set up your own indie label..and put your tracks for sale on some download sites then work from there on at promoting that, then you have your music out there independently with no hassles from elsewhere and you can work in your own time..
send your best tracks to radios also for extra exposure...web radios, analoge radios..pass cds to djs etc...its all good promotion for your own benefit for how far you want to take things..

As a signed artist , most of the time i can tell you this much
if you aint strong willed just carry on for the love like has been said,
If your serious then You need to be prepared to work your arse off
Bigtime, Thats just to get someone to even listen to you.
Best way is get your whole package in order Half a tune is gonna get you absolutly nowhere i promiss you that, try and get a cd of your work
inc. Disc cover ,Artwork cd case artwork etcetcetc. you want your Disc
to look like it would sit well in virgin megastore Hmv etc, yet stand out
from the tripe cos a blank disc ina blank case with my tunes, looks amaturish & Unproffessional, "It can be done its not hard thesedays,
with a basic pc you can pull this off if you put the time in, how much you put into doing this is up to you but this is what they look for m8 trust me . It aint about how great it looks that is gonna sell you, its
about how much effort has been put into it there looking for .you get my jist?. next you got to know your targets, research them ,Know what they like & what they dont and explain how great you think the label is etc etc etc , This is sucking dick time they like that but dont
over do it bro treat them as you would a really fit bird.
Then blitz them with your cds dont just send them out make each hit
personal and they will open your package in the mail thinking hmmm
wonder if this sounds as good as it looks, "if your music does " expect a call or email @least and dont judge a email as being nothing special
cos most will never reply so even if it says were not taking any artists on etc this means there not sure But you are on there records &
anything else you send will always get listened to ... mp3's etc are great to put on myspaace to show what you are like but they hardly ever get played trust me .. other than that get stuff out on white lable
and get everydj in town playing it Nuff Said.. BE LUCKY BRO
Everyone has some really good suggestions and pointers here.
One of the teachers at my school recently told us that spending all your time in the studio is nothing but masturbation.... You ain't pleasing anyone but yourself.
You gotta spend about half your time networking, making contacts, impressing people that matter, and gettin the ladies' numbers (that last one is optional for some).... The other half you spend in the studio. GOTTA do both.
THANKS EVERYBODY I APRECIATE IT A LOT,THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH,I SEE ITS GONNA BE A BIG PAIN IN THE ASS JUST TO GET HEARD FROM A COMPANY LABEL BUT I THINK HARD WORK GETS PAID SO I HOPE IM GONNA MAKE IT TO THE TOP AND I HOPE EVERYONE WHO WORKS HARD GONNA MAKE IT
PEACE Y'ALL
Also, if you join showcaseyourmusic.com they will send out A&R hookup offerings. You have to pay some money but it will ensure several label people to hear your tracks via a phone conference, plus about 60 silent listeners on average. They will tell you what they think and if a record label is interested in your work they will call you back and work out an arrangement deal with you. I haven't done this although I get info each time the next session comes up, because it costs like $99 per song. I haven't got that kind of money. But if you do then check it out bro!
