How do I get pre-amp and mic working?

Hi

I've been recording acoustic tracks on Cubase since March and have been using a Emu soundcard, Rode NT2-A mic and an art tube MP studio pre-amp....recording hasn't been a problem until a couple weeks ago when the pre-amp wasn't picking up signals from the mic - the VU meter doesn't move...only when I press the phantom power button.. I've checked all the connections and cubase settings and they all seem to be fine...I just don't understand why it has stopped working all of a sudden...I've tried to look on the internet for solutions but have found nada...it's so stressful! Please help!!

Any help would be much appreciated!

I'm thinking the problem is either with the microphone or the pre-amp. The Emu can be eliminated because your saying the needle on the pre-amp isn't moving at all. That means that either the microphone isn't working and therefore it's not sending a signal out, or it means the pre-amp has a problem in the signal path somewhere before it goes to the meter.

Does your Emu soundcard have phantom power available? If it does try to hook the mic directly into the Emu and see if you can get a signal that way. If you do, then the pre-amp is where the problem is at. If you don't get a signal, then the problem is probably the microphone...

If the problem is the microphone, contact Rode and you'll probably have to send it in to them to be fixed or replaced.

If the problem is the pre-amp, you'll probably want to send it to the manufacturer to be fixed. You could also narrow the problem within the pre-amp down to somewhere in the signal path at or before it goes to the meter... If you have a schematic you can follow it and see what knobs and switches might affect the signal before that point and try to change their settings and see if it changes anything.
