HOW DO I GET THE BEST MIXED DOWNS AND MASTERING IN HIP HOP USING CUBASE SX3

I am new to this home recording business and at the moment i have no clue on how to get the best mixdown on hip hop vocals and mastering.I am using windows xp with Cubase sx3 ,Rode NTA1 mic,Edirol FA101 soundcard and i have a 1.8 by 2.8m room i use for all that.Please help me as i am really desperate.One thing i do not understand is I hear a lot of pple telling me they have similar gear like me but the get the best quality than i do please help.
