no no...its all about pitch change i think???...or speeding up the sample(tempo) on your record player..
If you are using a DAW like Acid or Ableton (or any of the others, really) you can just adjust the pitch with a mouseclick. I imagine the old Alvin and the chipmunks records had the vocals recorded with the tape being played back at roughly half speed which then would sound all "chipmonk-y" when played back at regular speed. An annoying process for what amounts to an annoying gimmick.

You might as well use a "third" program like Audacity to change the pitch.
However, you can´t just pitch your vocals up, since they will have to be in the key of your song. If you don´t want to change the key of all your tracks, you can tune down a rough mix (2 or 3 steps), record your orig. vocals to it, then pitch them up again and insert them in the playback.
It helps if you already use some "strange" pronunciation when you lay down the original vocal tracks :-)
