how to make MPD24 work properly?

Hello~

I just got my mpd24 yesterday. and i i would like to ask a few questions...

1. I tried to use with the BFD Lite which came with the box, which is fine. But When i open the uniquest, it quits automatically in 2 secs. why? its becos im using OS10.4?

2. is uniquest just for the settings of MPD24? is it a making music software?

3. I got reason v4.0 and ableton live 5. I tired to use MPD24 with the reason redrum, it was okay. but it there any other good music software to play with it? If i want to use MPD24 for live performance, which software is good?

Sorry, i have asked many questions... does anyone have any ideas?

THANKSSSSSSSSSSSS,
samwai

Hi there Samwai, welcome to maketunes...

Not sure why Uniquest is quitting on you suddenly, however you're right that its just for messing with the settings of the MPD24 basically. It can also be used to backup/reload preset files etc. Its not a music making program.

However, Akai seem to have abandoned the Uniquest software, in favor of the Vyzex software, which apparently is used to do all the same sorts of things:

You should be able to setup both Reason and Ableton Live to work with the MPD24 - the important thing is using software which you're confident with - as the MPD24 is simply a midi controller for functions that you know how to use essentially.

I would have thought that Ableton Live once learned could be quite a suitable candidate for live performance.

I like using Battery as a basic drum sampler, but it wouldn't be so suitable for a live performance situation in my opinion.

As I mentioned, it mainly comes down to what program you are confident with - and then you're just adding hardware control onto that software basically.

An example of this is FLstudio - I wouldn't have a clue how to write a song with it, let alone create a hiphop track live with the MPD24 controlling FLstudio, but some people make it look easy!

Hello,

I have been away so long that now I am back and intent on getting my MPD24 to work.

I am using Reason 4.01 and Sonar 6.

My question is:

After successfully updating my MPD24 with v1.10, I am wondering how I load a Reason preset via VYZEX? I keep reading the pdf manuals and I see these cool pictures that show the MPD24 with Reason as a preset...

I try finding a factory preset of Reason in the MPD24 but I do not see it. It has everything else but Reason.....

The MPD24 works in Reason minus the transport controls. I am just wondering if installing the correct preset into my MPD will help with all the functions (i.e. transport buttons, etc.) , because the learn function doesn't work within Reason 4.01.....

Thanks in advance :)

So you've loaded the Reason Remote files?

Also, you shouldn't need to use Vyzex to load a Reason preset. In theory, you should simply be able to plug your MPD24 in via USB, and then use the rotary dial to select the Reason preset. As long as your Reason software is patched past 3.01 (which yours clearly is, being 4.01), it should have the MPD24 pic and full transport functionality included with it.... make sure Vyzex is not running, and unplug / replug in your mpd24, and see if the Reason preset becomes visible again. Sometimes I've seen when messing around with Vyzex, that the preset which happens to be loaded at the time, gets replaced with the word "NEW", until the mpd24 is unplugged and replugged back in. (both of those steps when vyzex is NOT running).
