I am an old guitar player from the 60's who quit playing for nearly 30 years and recently started playing again, excited about home recording. It is a lot steeper learning curve than I expected so I have several inital questions.
I have the Line 6 KB37 Midi controlller and recording interface and a drum machine and I got Riff Works software for the computer. The reason I got Riff Works is it sounded like the easiest software for entry level recording. I like it and am still learning it, and it seems the main thing is how to put the short, looped Riffs seamlessly together to get a song.
My questions are:
1) Any comments on Riffworks users and what is a better but not too complicated upgrade (FL)?
2) Anyone who can help me in using the keyboard with MIDI files to get synth sounds to work? I've not been able to get the keyboard to work for anything yet even though I have downloaded synths and vsts.
3) Lots more to come-------- this is a great site by the way!
Thanks so much,
Britt

ok... The full deal riff works or the free t4? If you have the standard 2.2.1 ver. then get reason 4.0. Do it now you'll thank me later. Riff works rewires into reason meaning that you can use reason 4.0 to create all of your backing tracks (drums synth horns piano... etc...) then use riff works to create your guitar track... simultaneously. I've never actually used riff works since I'm retarded when it comes to stringed instruments. (except bass... I love the bass guitar. It's the only thing my fat fingers can strum properly) Now I have used Adobe Audition to record someone playing their guitar, but it looks like riff works will give you better built-in fx than audition would. Anywho... Reason has TONS of sounds built in plus you can add new patches or sounds for each of the built in modules. Lots of them are user created and therefor free. Your midi controller should work right out the box with reason. It's not that hard to use... It looks like it, but ignore all of those knobs and sliders. You probably won't use 'em. Here's the link to RiffWorks forum page. browse around there and post questions if you need to. If you end up getting reason, I'll give you pointers if ya want 'em.
ok now alex. Again, not a FL user, but if it works like any other arranger and recording software, up in the file tab there should be an option called "import" or "import file" Usually followed by an "export" option. click that "import". Once in there, it should bring up a file window where you can browse for your file to import. Got to your CD drive and start looking for your sounds. Optionally you can turn off the auto-play feature on windows so that when you insert your disk it'll do nothing. Can't remember exactly how that's done at the moment, but i'll remember shortly and let you know. If that doesn't help you, ask sole. He'll know right off the bat for sure how to import your Big fish Audio wavs. Out of curiousity which BFA cd did you get? I'm a huge fan of their products and have several myself.
