Howdy - I'm Ingrid

Hi All

I'm Ingrid, and I came across this site and thought I would join up. Some nice tunes here and seems to have a good community feel.

I'm actually a classically trained musician who is actually having a play with electronica. I like simple "stripped back" grooves, riffs, baselines and beats. You don't need to understand music theory to make these songs, and sometimes the most amature tunes are the best because of their raw honesty.

The songs I post are simple ones of around 2 minutes, and I usually post them before they are finished but when they have their "feel" well established. I do many different genres.

Anyway, one thing I really enjoy is flicking around this site and checking out everyone's tunes.

Love Ingrid

Hey Ingrid,

Welcome to MakeTunes,

I'm quite jealous, I'd love some classical training in music! I agree you don't need to know the theory in order to be able to pull off great tunes just like you don't really need to know anything about art to like certain paintings but for me informed appreciation is the zenith of enjoyment.

It gives you a language to be able to distinguish all the different elements of a piece, and therefore gives words to what was before ineffable feelings.

What sort of system/software are you using to pump out your music?

Thanks Illusivemind for the welcome and the comments on my songs. I hope to post a few more soon.

I mainly use Reason with a basic midi controller (keyboards and controls). I have used FL studio previously, which was a good intro, but Reason is definitely my main DAW and seems to make it easy for me to be creative. I also like the level of control it gives me. I still use FL every now and then, and I probably would purchase the basic version of FL8 to check it out because it looks like it has some nifty features.

However I would be hell keen also to get the Native Instruments Komplete package once I can afford it because I really want to work on getting some really unique and original samples, and monster analogue synth sounds. This is because I usually like to make simple songs that really feature a certain sound. I heard a demo of NI and thought it sounded divine. Apparently Nick Terranova of Starkillers uses it and his stuff is awesome.

Love, Ingrid
