Later this week I'm going to buy a new computer, the one I have now is way too old, Win 98' . Anyway, I also need to upgrade my recording software. I'm using Cool Edit Pro. I found out the company that released Cool Edit pro merged with Adobe So the new software is called Adobe Audition, and is now $400.00. Well I need something simple, and cheap, no more then a $100.00. I've seen many but what would be the best choice. Fruityloops, Sony ACID Music Studio. etc. What I'm looking for is to be able to record, and edit wave files, multi-track audio record, and multi-track midi. Cool Edit, when in multi-track mode could go well over 100 tracks in digital recording, it just depends on the power, and hard drive space on the computer. Please leave your suggestions in this forum, thanks in advance.

Personally I find Acid Pro perfect for me - but mind you I don't do a lot of direct audio recording, I mainly work with VSTs and corresponding midi tracks. And also sometimes samples which I've created in other software, and chosen to bring in to my current acid track.
I also don't tend to edit my wave files in Acid either - if I need to do something major to a sample, I'll work on it in Audacity. That could be more of a habit than anything though.
You could always try out the demo of Sony Acid Pro, see if it suits you?

For around 100 bucks... IDK d00d... most stuff is at least $150. The student or academic versions of most production software is your cheaper stuff. FL Studio 8 Academic suite is $180 at musiciansfriend.com, Reason 4 student version, $240. Cubase 4 Essentials is $150 and the only one for $100 is cakewalk SONAR... again all of these prices are at http://www.Musiciansfriend.com and the have free shipping on all of these programs. I used Cool Edit for a while, just as a wav editor and mastering suite, not to actually produce in, and I find Audition to not be all that much different. When Adobe bout out Syntrillium, the sound quality was improved, and they added more effects and VST support... look into SONAR or Cubase. I fooled with Cubase a bit. It'll do everything you want it to, and then some. Reason works different. Everything in Reason is pretty much self contained. No need for any plug ins. You can add refills, but that's just loops, drum kits and other like patches, no new instruments. You can use your own wav samples or loops, but you have to go about it differently than you used to... So I guess the long short of it is, go with what you know. Cubase or SONAR will be closest to Cool Edit without breaking your wallet. There's more out there, just go to the above website and navigate to pro audio software and start browsing. You'll find something good!
Be good... or just good at it

Hello to everybody.
I think the best way to make tunes is...
I use Synapse Orion Platinum to make samples. This program can co-work with any music making software you own. Just open Orion and open other program you want through this to help building samples. The Orion program could include many many many VSTs and other plugs. Well... You did samples for your future composition. Save it in wav format in some folder. Then I do next thing. I open tracker program Sony Acid Pro (any version) and build whole track using saved samples. I also use samples (fxs, pads, drums, beats etc) from my collection. When my work is completed I save my composition in wav. Then I clear track sound in program called Wave Lab. Then convert my track in any format )
So you need three main progs: Synapse Orion Platinum / Sony Acid Pro / Wave Lab (is not necessary).
That is how I do. But you can choose your own way )
P.S. Matt, sorry for this post, but can you see if there're any problems with my last tune upload?

"Reaper" is pretty damn awesome. You can download the whole thing for free, and if you like it you have to pay $50 after 30 days... If you don't like it, just delete it... I guess it'll block you after 30 days.
Here's the link: http://www.reaper.fm/
Click on "Download Reaper Installer" in the middle under the picture.
G'luck, peace
After looking into Reaper a little, if I had Windows I would buy Reaper right now... It's sick. You can store it on your usb flash drive and run the software from your flash drive on any computer! That's sweet as hell. 64-bit audio. Works with just about any interface. Includes unlimited EQ, compression, convolution reberb, real time pitch correction... Fully functional MIDI capabilities. Unlimited track counts... Damn, this thing is impressive.
Hey man, I have already posted a forum about a free audio workstation. I don't know if it's the what you need but I think it should match at least some of your expectation. And you will not spend any money, it's free, but it doesn't work with windows. So if you have a Mac or Linux, you can try it, if you don't like it you can always remov it, you won't lose anything. I don't have the chance to use because I use windows. Anyway, check out the developer's website.
