Not sure if this is the right place to ask this but here goes anyway.
I do all my recording work at home using a HP Pavillion Media Center PC, running Vista Home Premium.
It has 1gb RAM, 3.4 g processor, and has onboard audio using Realtek Audio, for sound I'm using Creative 5.1 speakers, I'm also using a Creative Soundblaster External USB soundcard.
For some reason, when I have the speakers plugged into the external soundcard, it will play music fine and sounds great, but when I plug an instrument into the line-in of the soundcard I get nothing at all, even though all the sound settings are correct.
When I plug the speakers into the back of the internal soundcard, and use that soundcard as the default one, I can play my instrument and hear it, but no matter what recording software I seem to use, I can't seem to record a thing.
Can anybody possibly help me with this problem?

Well Creative sux big time for Digital Audio Workstations, but regardless, what instrument are you plugging into the card?
Have you made sure that the "line-in" channel is selected in the sound card properties for both Windows and the recording program you're using?
