My laptop needs a new fan. I'm eventually going to order one but i'mma get a new one first since it's over 4 years old. I'm a Toshiba fan, i already saw the ones i plan on getting. Rain recordings make computers especially for music production but i can't afford em or the alienware computers. i wanna know what do you guys use?

Music knows no bounds
If your gonna drop that kinda cheeze and get a Satellite, you might wanna think about a mac... they start at around $1000, which is about how much a good Toshiba costs. But if PC is your thing and you don't want to switch to a mac, then get something higher end... I would recommend staying as far away from Vista as you can possibly get. Do research and find out if the computer you're looking at has drivers for XP... They usually do, but you'd have to go to the individual hardware manufacturers website for each driver... (ie ATI for your video and realtek for your on-board sound...) Format that sucker and install XP... Or do as I did, and install a customized/modded version of XP like LastXP, XP Ice or XP Black. I like LastXP the best out of all of them... my little compaq with a 2.0ghz P4 with 1gb of ram runs damn near as slick as a mac. But you have to do your research. Don't go on reviews about the laptop as a whole... look at what kind of components it comes with.
Here's some basic guidelines from me... a computer repair guy:
Stay away from broadcom wireless and 10/100 NIC. Broadcom sucks bad. Try and get all intel integrated hardware. I seem to have less problems with Intel on-board products. ATI is good and nVidia is good when it comes to video... that's the only time I would go with something other than Intel. If you're going to put an external sound interface for recording, than it doesn't matter what kind of on-board sound you get with it. Soundmax or Realtek are the best of the best when it comes to on-board sound chips. They both use the Realtek HD Audio codecs. That's what I have and it's perfect. DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, BUY A SONY VIAO LAPTOP!!!!!!! They are nothing but trouble! If you have one that is just perfect and nothing ever goes wrong with it... than you are god among men. I see more of those hunks of shit in my shop, and every one has a busted wireless adapter. Just see what the laptop has built in and look up each thing to see if anyone has problems with it. It's a major purchase, read up on what your getting into

damn, it looks like i won't have enought money to get a new laptop until January. I might go ahead and just get the fan my old laptop needs. all my old beats are on there, i need to get them off anyway. i hope all i need is a fan.
LastXP is THE best Windows OS IMHO. It has SOOOO many nice features and add-ons, and the best part is they don't suck up your resources. In fact, the help free them up, making you PC run almost as fast as a Mac, as long as you have a decent processor on about 1-2 GB of RAM. During the install you are prompted to select which windows services you want installed, and which ones you don't. It has an enormous driver pack pre-installed, so you will most likely NOT have to track down and install your drivers for XP. (I had to get my wireless adapter drivers for my compaq v2000 laptop, but that was it) It comes with a silent app installer and a nice list of appz to install with windows. So, once it's finished installing, your good to go! No need for a key, no reason to crack it... it's made from a corporate copy of XP.
Tater, I will e-mail you later today or tomorrow telling you how to get and install LastXP... It really is SOOOOOOOOOO much better than regular XP and It's so far better than Vista it would be like comparing Win 3.1 to XP. OK so that's total hyperbole, but you get what I'm saying. And it's easy as all get out to install... I could probably train my dog to do it... maybe not 'cuz she's a retard, but you get it.
