MPD24 UPDATE TROUBLE!!!

Hello everyone. Anyone. I am yet another MPD24 victim, as i have seen there are many here with problems.

I feel AKAI should be more helpful. I tried installing the new firmware, did all the instructions, and then suddenly... Vysex does not find my device!! The computer says it is unable to work!! I use a windows vista, HP pavillion DV6000 model if that helps.

I know there must be others with this problem, and I am just wondering if anybody experienced or who owns the same product and has overcome this could kindly help me with a little advice for this problem.

I need a really good solution, cuz i live halfway cross the world where there are no guitar centers i can return this to! My mpd24 is stuck on "Upgrade Send Syx", i have the syx file and all, but the computer wont detect.

Somebody? Anybody? please send some links if there are any helpful ones, and some advice please, I will be very grateful!!!

Sincerely, Dillon

Hey welcome to maketunes dillondef

Have you tried these instructions? They're from Akai's own support dept

http://www.maketunes.com/forums/akaipro-support-mpd24-vyzex-instructions

Let me know if that helps fix your situation.

Hello. Thank you for the welcome, cool site.

But I have already tried these instructions, after seeing them sent to the other guy here. I can try them again, shutdown my computer and turn it on again and stuff. To see if that works. Thank you anyways though, i will surely update you on this.

Presumably you've tried unplugging and replugging in your mpd24... I know its obvious, but just in case :)

Yes sir I have, haha=P I'll see what happens after a couple more times of trying, but do you have any suggestions afterwards if this fails again? I have tried the Akaipro site to, not much help=P And there arent many people around here i can contact who have midi controller experience, but maybe a computer-repair man or someone can help.

matt's picture

Hmmm so what point can you get to? You plug it in (using the 3-button firmware erase method), and then what happens?

dillondef's picture

Well, then my computer cannot detect the device as functioning after my attempt to do what it says on the installation instructions. So, basically it leaves my mpd24 not useable. So, im really stubbed on whats wrong with it. The cable is fine, the connection with other usb devices are fine, But the Vysex software cannot detect the mpd 24.

When your mpd24 firmware has been wiped, the device is not functional, and cannot be properly communicated with by Vyzex. When you start the Vyzex software, click OK to the warning "Autosense could not find the Akai Professional MPD24". (Is that what you're meaning by it cannot detect it? Because that error is fine to see!)

Then click "Cancel All" to continue.

Go to "MIDI > MIDI In Ports" and confirm that you have ONLY selected MIDI-out port "USB DEVICE".

Go to "MIDI > MIDI Out Ports" and confirm that you have ONLY selected MIDI-out port "USB DEVICE".

After that click "MIDI > Transmit MIDIX (.SYX File)", and find your update file. Transfer will begin after you open that file with Vyzex.

But the thing is that on the devices, is does not show usb device, it only shows on the Midi out "Windows Sequencer" or something similar to that. I have tried clicking on that numerous times, while also changing the buffer to 8 and the other to 2500, but i guess im not giving up yet.

The instructions above are the standard instructions for Vysex and the usb device, right?
I will see what else i can do.

matt's picture

Aha I see, yeah I just thought I better double check that you weren't getting offput by that error I mentioned.

Yeah pretty much the standard instructions I think, though the first one I linked above contained a few more settings that aren't mentioned in the packaging included instructions. However, if you're not even seeing the USB device, I'm not sure thats much help as from memory you're needing to see that first off.

dillondef's picture

Well, i have tried the instructions above a few times again, turned off all other programs in case they might be interfering, but still nothing. I am not sure what the problem is, I am not an expert at this stuff, but I know i have followed all the instructions correctly. I have backtracked a number of times. Know anybody to contact? or any other instructions that may work? I appreciate the help so far, its just that this machine is stubborn it seems.

Hmmm thats no good - have you tried talking with Akai's own tech support? (Select tech support from the dropdown box on this contact form). They responded to my question in the past within a couple of days.
