mpd24.....i don't get it

i used to have an mpd16 back in the day and i remember liking it even though my computer at the time was to slow to really use it properly. i haven't made electronic music in a couple years and just started getting back into it. i've got a pc running vista home w/ 2 gigs of ram, an evolution mk-249c2 and i just bought an mpd24. i use reason 4 and acid pro 6. i've watched videos of people playing with their mpd24's on youtube and it looks awesome. i'm sitting here in my little studio and it's not doing anything like that. what programs should i be using to fully enjoy this cool looking piece of equipment?

i'm hoping matt will answer because i've been reading all his answers and he knows what he's talking about. come on, matt, help me out.

Hey there gRAT, thanks for the vote of confidence ;)

Well basically it comes down to what software you're using, and most importantly how well you know that software. As its a midi controller, you can pretty much assign the controls and/or pads to whatever part of the program you're using, and thats when it gets crazy.

Myself I usually just use it in quite a simple way, to belt out a few drum patterns using Battery and the mpd24 pads - but obviously thats nothing compared to how some people use it. Incidentally, as Equalibrum says, that is possible due to how well he knows FLstudio - and then hes simply assigned the various mpd24 controls to the appropriate flstudio controls to be able to play a live track like that.

Similar sorts of things should be possible with Reason 4 - as it has presets which map out the mpd24 onto the commonly used reason controls.
