Question about a crackling sound on FL

Sup guys, umm Recently i figured out how to use sound effects and mixers to customize my sound more, and I actually figured out a way to create a Hardhouse/Hardstyle kick, Using Compressor, EQ, Fast Dist and Blood Overdrive, the thing is when I put it up with my melody, and play it all together, it begins to crackle. i've tried turning down the volume on mixer panel, but still have the same prob. If you guys can help me out, would be great! :), also how do I upload my songs up here so I can show you guys what i'm working on so far?

Hey Brianmed - to upload a song of yours, just login and then click Create Content > Music on the little user menu under your username to the left,

Sounds to me like your cpu/soundcard is struggling with all the extra audio processing required. What sort of soundcard do you have installed? And under your FL audio preferences, what Device do you have enabled? If you have an ASIO device as an option, try selecting that and it should be way better.

If you don't have an ASIO option available (some soundcards are not ASIO capable), then you will see a silder bar labeled Buffer Length. Slide it towards the right a bit, increasing the buffer size. This will help remove the crackling, which is not volume related, but is the sound of the system not being able to process all the complicated audio fast enough - which is why adding a buffer helps smooth things out.

thank you :) and yes infact i do have an ASIO driver, but when I use it as my driver, i get no sound. any reason why it would do this?

What sort of sound card do you have? If your soundcard doesn't support ASIO mode, but its listed for some reason as an option, it won't output any audio, as your soundcard needs to have the actual ASIO hardware built into it.

I should point out that ASIO4ALL is in a category of its own... its a software emulated version of the true (hardware) ASIO mode that most musician-targeted cards have. Some people find ASIO4ALL very useful at improving the performance of their Creative soundcard for example - while some people have problems using the ASIO4ALL in the first place.

yea that's what it says I have ASIO4All, as for my sound card I have.. says here..Hauppague WinTV HVR-1600 NTSC/ATSC Combo dunno if that's correct, but it's under Sound devices.

Hmmm that seems to be a TV tuner video in/out card - with sound support too of course. Under sound devices menu, can you select anything else?

Can you list all the available options you see under FL options for audio devices?

Under sound devices is says Realtek High Defintion Audio, and then Virtual Audio Cable, when I check under FL options for Audio, I get Primary Sound Devices, Speakers (Realtek high Definition Audio, Realtek Digitial Output, Line 1 (which is a Virtual Audio Cable) and ASIO4ALL

Ah ok, Realtek is onboard audio... integrated into your motherboard. Its not designed for musicians :) I also would guess that ASIO4ALL wouldn't work with Realtek - its mainly designed for people with consumer cards made by Creative etc.

However, I'm pretty sure that selecting one of the Realtek options there which DOES output audio, and increasing the buffer slider should give you a workable FL setup.... as long as you're not trying to use external midi keyboards etc (which won't work at all well because of the increased latency).

Alright man thanks alot :)
