Real bass?

Hi there,

I've just joined you all on maketunes and was just wondering if anyone out there wanted some real bass added to their tracks?

Basically, what I'm keen to do would be to record an audio version for peoples tracks to be used in place of synth basslines etc.

I recently did this with one of my tracks, Electro1, on my website and I was fairly happy with it. I thought it gave the track bit more of a groove and gave it a bit of life.

If anyone is interested in collaborating please give me a shout.

Hey I don't need any bass lines as I was in the same spot as you. Not real happy with either Synth or Sample bass sounds. I broke down and bought a Squire Bass and never looked back. I was using a Radial phantom powered DI for a while there and I JUST bought a Universal Audio LA 610 channel strip as a front end for an Apogee Duet (my Guitar Center credit card is maxed out....I gotta sell my old interface and a whole bunch of gear just sitting in my garage right now). Man....it is an expensive front end but the bass sounds GREAT going in and I have some Line 6 bass models that are icing on the cake. What do you use?

Nice! Ha my setup is much more basic. I plug my Honer Bass straight into my little Tapco mixer and right into the sound card. The mixer is great, small but good quality. I can't say the same about my sound card. I really want to upgrade my PC. Like you, I don't think my credit card is up to it ;)

So yeah once I record in I just use some VSTs in Cubase for a bit of compressions and sometimes a touch of flanger, chorus etc.

Just checking out some of your stuff. Swimming with the pod is intense.

Funny part is that is actually synth bass.....squashed all to hell and I'm not even sure what Plug I used...probably something from Reaktor 5. I understand Cubase has some pretty good plugs....there are some good free ones out there as well....Have you checked out Camel Crusher? Very nice and simple compression/distortion plug. SSL and digitalfishphones both have good free compression plugs as well.

I was using a Mackie Onyx 1220 firewire/mixer with a Radial active DI for a bit there and that was pretty nice. I mention it because you are using a Tapco mixer as a pre....Mackie stuff (or anything related to it) is really good for the money....and under-rated. I would still be using it but I just upgraded my Mac's OS without checking the Mackie website and it is no longer compatible. For a little while, I was stuck using the Line 6 Gearbox gold bundle that comes with a little toneport-like box as an interface. Really, it wasn't bad as it has some good guitar and bass models and only cost something like 150 bucks .

I just went to your site....nice guitar playing! I take it you are using some kind of modeling program, right? Here's one I did with Ableton Live and the Gearbox....

Thanks for the complements on the guitar playing. Yeah, I usually record the electric guitar through my BOSS GT-8. Its a decent toy. When I upgrade my PC I will be able to use the digital cable and hopefully get even better sound quality.

I really enjoyed Swan Song - nice bright tone on the guitar. Good to hear slide that sounds very different to what you normally hear! Keep up the good work. I must say that's the stuff that interests me...the mix of the synth and real instruments!

Thanks for the positive feedback...I am JUST starting to record with the guitar and bass again....I have been dinking around with virtual instruments for some time now and am finally able to work quickly enough to work in some real playing.
