It is time to prepare for the scary and the unexpected! For the first time ever, this contest will be about making the most scariest track of all. Are you scary? Can you be? Have you ever tried? This is the place.
Since no one ever makes a scary track, there will be no limit to the amount of submissions. Create away. Not only will you get 100 percent copyright to a track made by me, but you will also be labeled the Scariest producer on maketunes. I will be needing one judge who is a active participant on maketunes. If more then one person is interested in being a judge then I will expand the judge amount. Judging will take place the day after Halloween. If the other judge/s are not up to ball and I cannot reach them, then I will solely judge to ensure that the winner is announced on the day after Halloween.
This contest isn't about making a song that sounds like something from Transylvania, but rather something that would not be good to listen to with the lights off at night. A little tip: Slow the sounds down. If you stretch it out it will scare!

Submit your tracks now, because the deadline is the day before Halloween. ALL GENRES WELCOME, but you best get experimenting, or it wont be scary. NO VOCALS! SAMPLES must be majorly altered if used. ALL songs MUST be downloadable!
A little side incentive, The winner can choose vox created by me and lyrics to a song done by the winner, or EZ DRUMMER! Or what was promised, plus either way... the title as the scariest producer on maketunes!
People who whine about the prize need not get involved in the contest. The contest is about competing strictly, and not getting a million dollars, their own helicopter, and private massage therapist! You get a title as the Scariest Producer at Maketunes and a FREE song filled with great melody and I can even send it in chunks for the winner if he/she wants to mess around with it to the fullest creative potential. I don't wanna hear how you feel it lacks in the prize department, because if I wanted to hear people whine I could just go to work and get on the phone and talk to customers. Be aware of this as well(and I am making a point because of past comments in past competitions) any whining on THIS forum and I will lay you out at the SMACKDOWN forum! Now that's scary!

Scary music... Are you making a horror movie? :-) But man, you should remember that the internet is a wide world, anybody can get the soundtrack from a horror movie and submit it here (no one remembers horror movies' soundtracks, I guess). Anyway, the idea is nice and a submission here will need a lot of work. I'll see what i can do.

Yeah bro, but I aint worried about it. There are alot of ears here and if someone spots someone being fraudulent, then they get disgraced openly. A sample is okay but not a soundtrack. THe rules state as follows(copied and pasted from above):
SAMPLES must be majorly altered if used.
I really don't think anyone will try to download a track from a movie and put it on here. It would be noticeable.

Hey man, even if it's scary it still gotta be music right? I'm working on it now, and I'm trying to create some scary sounds that can also be qualified as musical sounds and I'm having a hard time doing it... Forget about it, I'll come up with something eventually.
I want to know if we can use some vocal samples, not singing, just screams or choruses or whatever....

A musical composition is what you make of it. If you mean shouldn't it at least have something melodic in it then yes. It has to have, because just a bunch of scary sound fx wont count.

yea sole....its my daughter....i gotta say...i think im in over my head on this one....there's already been two great entry's
Naw man! Give it a go bro! It is something we don't normally create. The challenge is in the concept itself! I know from your past works that ANYTHING is capable! Just think outside of the box and make something you have NEVER MADE before! Make it creep you out. If it creeps you out then it is scary. Screams, moans, cat mewls, growls, evil laughs and great side fx make a scary song happy. Reverberated instruments to. DJ Caesar is 16 years old and look at the great track he made! He has never EVER made a scary song before (not that I am aware) and I only just posted this contest up. There are two great songs, but, bottom line, you have more then an entire month until the contest comes to a close.

And s...l...o...w.... it down. It is amazing how sounds start sounding scary. In that silent Resident Evil Hill track I did the part where I did the room full of zombies near the end of the track was created by slowing down a sound sample of a cherring crowd believe it or not. Crazy!

Super rough draft, need your thoughts on what's going on with this. I'm having trouble with the 5/4 timing on some of the drums. This is TOTALLY out of my element.... I like that though.

If the mastering is phenomenal, but rookie Joe posted a piece of crap in the mastering department, yet is scarier, then he is winning. This is the SCARIEST Music Contest! The whole point is.... no one is scary enough for me yet. This is fuel for the fire, to make SURE it happens. I think thats a good idea. I think you need some samples to create this horror feel!
I have school now so I don't have any time for music anymore... :( Plus, I prefer having some kind of melody instead of piling up FX samples... I've had my two entries and I personnally I like them both so I'm done with horror right now, I'll wait for the results. By the way, when will you give us the results?

Of course P!tbull and I are on the ball. One day I will throw a melody contest. Melody isn't important in this contest. Scaring the living daylights out of someone is. I am not asking for nothing but sound fx. That is the composition I came up with last year... and it has nothing to do with the competition here. That was made to basically accomplish what I am pushing you guys to accomplish here. I am not saying to have nothing but sound fx, and in my book that isn't a song. I myself am a melody man and it is my strongest suit, so I know all about the subject matter. I do not wish to have everyone stoop to my level. The tracks are all great already, don't get me wrong. The posted link for samples was to throw a spin on the contest, which is already bigger then the current TIMES competition. I want it bigger, bottom line, and am all about challenging someone and pushing them to make that next track as this is the basis of inspiration.
DJ Caesar, if you are happy with your submissions, then that is all that matters bro. YOu have school- I understand. Do not let anything stand in your way to getting your education bro. Let it ride 'as it were' and I wanna see what other people have. I wanna get scared by what I hear next. Bottom line. The samples spice up a track and as P!tbull aforementioned is the only goal. Even you have sound fx in your tracks.. yet there is still melody. You got it bro. Others could add this same flavor to their tracks and increase their chances. They can update already finished compositions by adding flavor to their tracks by adding some well placed altered samples. There is nothing saying once submitted you cannot update a song, and nothing saying that it must be all FX, and nothing saying that you have to create a gazillion tracks. Peace out bro!

Hey Im not going to be in the contest but I wanted to let every one know there is a great free VSTi that makes great sounds for horror movies. So if you are interested search and download it. It is called the gargoyle or something like that. I used it before but had no use for it because it had a bunch of scary movie sounds. Just a heads up and I may not have spelled the name right but just search and you will find it. When you find it you will know because it looks scary and has a pictur of a gargoyle on the VSTi.

Well I didn't make it. I tried to jam out a whole track in two hours. When I read your respose,I thought you said "oh,one oclock is a minute too late" At 11:50 I realized that what you you were saying was 12"o"one is a minute two late,so I tried to get up what I had,but I "finished at 12:00 and it took me 10 min to convert and upload so, oh well at least I still have one bad ass entry w/ the fade out at the end by the way. Wolf - Most Scary Producer for his track "Hip Hop Hell"
DJ Caesar won 2nd place in the Scariest category for his track "Wishing On A Tombstone"
Benesh came in 3rd place for Most Scary Producer for his track "Watcher"
Capricorn One - Most Suspenseful Producer on Maketunes for his track "Three Steps Behind You". Capricorn One took this one to the cleaners guys. It had a classic Alfred Hitchcock sound to it mixed with a nice touch of modern style. This track was definitely the most suspenseful.
I didn't rate a 2nd place for the most suspenseful category only because there were many that would have competed and that slot as well as third place would have been too hard to judge for sure. There were many different styles and genres and I thought everyone did a great job making Halloween style music. Next year I hope to see a bigger amount of downright scary fx add-ins. This really makes a track scary . When there is only music and no fx it isn't as scary. What makes a scary movie or music scary for that matter, is the unexpected. Unless being immature then a scary face walking toward you is scary. I have watched every scary movie there is to see and I can fall asleep with the best of them. But that unexpected BAM! is the scary element. The more unexpected sounds that come in, that sheer violation of conscious mind, the more startling the revelation, the better. You will notice in the top three most scary tracks there were at least two different complete elements to the songs as well.
DJ Willie F won the special THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX award for his Hollywood Movie Style track "My Final Minutes". The whole thing was storybook style and presented a whole different take because from start to finish, the track had the listener wondering how the story was going to unfold and it was told. The conclusion wrapped it up nicely within the few minutes alotted for musical duration. Ingenious!

Congratulations to the winners and to all the contestants who competed! You guys tried something you don't ever do and that is the encouraging factor within humans. To do something different and not be afraid to try it. To experience different things means to live a fuller life.
