SPECTRALIS by Radikal Technologies

When I first saw this I almost crapped myself.
No seriously: drumcomputer with wide variety of samples, ok thats a nice base.
3 polyphonic (sample playback I think) digital synths... getting tasty..
1 analog part? Oh Damn!
ANALOG FILTERS?!!!!

Watch and listen to the first minute of this:

then check out a little tutorial:

I finally believe that the future of music production is looking a little brighter as manufacturers are slowly realizing that the relative effectivness (cheapness) of digital does not outweigh the timeless greatness of analog sound.

So forget about hybrid cars, hybrid grooveboxes are the real future!!

Cool, I've wondered about how do-able that sort of thing is... adding analogue components to digital studio gear. Haven't read/heard much about it myself. Bring on the hybrid grooveboxes!

I just picked up a Spectralis last month. It is really an amazing unit. The sound quality will blow you away and nothing on youtube can really give you an indication of it until you listen for yourself. Check out the Spectralis forum at spectralis.de to find links to other mp3 tracks from users. This is a true Hybrid meaning it uses high quality 32bit DSP in the parts that can benefit from it and uses true Analog section for the Low Pass filter for example. But the analog section can be modulated with the LFOs and the digital section. It also has a Fixed Filterbank with bands that can be modulated mixed with the other filters, sequenced using the really deep sequencers, step, realtime, chord tapping. Basically it is just very very musical. The creator Joerg Schaaf is a bit of a legend and used to work for Quasimidi. If you've ever used a Polymorph, you'll immediately get the idea of the Spectralis but I've owned a Polymorph and it is a toy in comparison. The Spectralis was designed to be his dream instrument and that really shows because it is made without compromise. This is something that maybe hurts it commercially because I doubt it is profitable to produce. It also suffers from lack of marketing budget and lack of having a big company behind it. There is however an active user community. If you are willing to put some time into this instrument it will pay you back big time. My 2 or 3 cents.
