Now I had a brilliant idea today...
I want to make a statistic about which programs maketunes users use to produce their music.
It would be great if some of you guys out there would take part in this!
Peace everyone and please spread the word about this forum (and about maketunes of course;))

I can't just name one man because I use them all about the same amount for different things.I use FL 6,Acid Pro 6 as of now and Ableton Live 6.
B E-Z and Keep rockin,Dj Bizzerk
ok man
thats fine i think i found a way to do that statistic if you name more programs too...no problem and thx homie
what do you think of that idea?
Ya great idea man.You got my respect for it.Hopefully we will see alot of artist posting in it.
B E-Z and Keep rockin,Dj Bizzerk
if the same program cannot be named again it won't be along forum. I use Adobe Audition2 for all vocal takes. FL doesn't recognize my mic. Maybe this will change when I get my sound card.
I don't think Pitbull was meaning each program can only be mentioned by one person?
Anyway, I guess Cubase is the core of things I do these days...
Has to be Reason V3 for me, for now.
Coolboy in the mix.
FRuity loops and adobe for me...
I've got to give mad props to Reason v3 too ;) Its a great system, though it's a shame its not capable of being a VST host itself.
I use FL Studio to compose my beatz with a Axiom 25 controller.
Stop thru and check me out sumTyme!!!

Hey whats happening EmergeX, feel free to upload some of your tracks on MakeTunes too!
Ive posted one allready, whats the limit to post music?
Hi, yeah I saw that just after I posted here! Strange that its being displayed several times on the audio overview page, I'll try and get that sorted.
There are no limits at the moment for original music
Matt is right. I am working on my 5th page of songs. Upload away, let's hear what you got EmergeX!
Ya man can't wait to hear your rap beats bro.I have one so far I just made a lil while ago.Check it out and let me know what you think. It is called We Ready Fo Ya.
B E-Z and Keep rockin,Dj Bizzerk
yeah i didnt mean that the same program cant be named twice...
but you know im german (dont you);)
thx for your help by the way...
Sole:which FL and which adobe?
thx
Reason 3... I mainly work with midi and loops so reason will suffice :)
However, I need to start using something to add voices to my tracks... reason is REALLY weak when it comes to voices.
- Cap.
I use FL 5 and Adobe Audition 2.0
ok thx to you guys
hey cap did you ever try FL?
i think its great for voices too!
Well i use Logic Audio Platinum 5.5 rewired with Reason 3 and lots of vst and i use Fruity Loops 6 as a vst too i can use it with no limitations within logic ,so i use all those 3 as one, Finally i use cubase sx3 for the final twists and mastering.
I use FL Studio and Adobe Audition 2.0

Great minds think alike Illusivemind
Haha, the must SoleMySole. A lot of people pay out FL Studio, but I'm yet to require any of the features of 'higher-end' programs and the learning curve is so much better on FL imho.

-just a thought-
Reason 3.0,
Garage Band (version?),
and my personal sweetheart, Protools 6.2.2, she makes me hard.
LOL --Amittai.
-Before there was viagra... then came something better... something you pay once for and then can use for free...over and over again. Protools!
Ya pro tools is nice man,But I think Acid pro 6 is just as good.Everyone keep in mind it is not the program that makes the bad ass tune its the one turning the knobs and pressing the buttons.lol
B E-Z and Keep rockin,Dj Bizzerk
hey this forum is working great.
thx to all of you guys!!!
just something is still missing too often:the version. For now:
illusivemind...if you could please tell me your fl version...thx;)
amittai...that garage band version isnt a big problem!thx
EmergeX...Of you I also require the version of FL please...thx
Im sorry for being so exactly but it is the only way to get the statistic real good
peace guys
I use Fl 5(all the plug-ins-->SUPER CRACK VERSION)lol....MPC 2000xl(speaks for itself). Now I'm stuck wit "Cubase", I wanna try sumthing new.
ok thx man
every comment here is helpful
MPC 2000xl is y program?:0
Well I guess *technically* the MPC is a hardware device with internal music creation *software* Pitbull ;)
Of course of course... I agree completely, DJBIZZERK... First comes ability and know-how... Without that you've got nothing no matter what studio you're running.
You know how your friends have their own scents, and their crib smells exactly the same? That's like what I hear in work done with different programs, I hear the similar Acid overtone in all the Acid work I listen to, same with Cubase and Garageband and so on, etc... But with Protools I don't hear a characteristic tone to it, the sounds all seem entirely pure and up to me to customize accordingly.
It's not a big difference tho, not like I could guess what program you used just by hearing a track.
Yes that is true Amittai sometimes I hear music made with fruity loops or acid and ect. and I can usually tell which program made it, but not exactly.I have heard some music that you can't even tell what program made it.There are many differences in all programs some to better and some not.
B E-Z and Keep rockin,Dj Bizzerk
Hi man
I use Ableton Live 5 & Cubase SX with several VST plugins & synth (Korg Legacy pack, LinPlug) & effects, with a little midi keybords, on Macintosh Book Pro PPC.
:-)
I love your brand name of computers. A mac trying to become a pc.
Yeah actually Mac's in general are kinda turning into PCs progressively.... Maybe they'll stop, but with the intel processors and whatnot, Macs are becoming more and more similiar to PCs recently... Or so I think, I don't quite keep up with all the specs on this stuff... Only what I need to know to make my tunes.
I use rollands Mc808- microKorg- EDIROL PC CONTROLLER-ACID PRO-FLSTUDIO IT DEPENDS ON WHAT I FEEL LIKE WORKIN WITH AT TIME
thx very much guys
i dont know when ill post the statistic, because i think its not enough people who took part in it.
Would be nice if youd spread the word about this forum!
THX
I use FL Studio 6 and Cool Edit Pro 2.1, sometimes use Virtual DJ too but its a bit crappy rely.
P.S FL RULES!
I use Garage Band, Live6 and PT 7.02? lol
I now use FL 7..not FL5
ok thx very much guys
keep spreading the word about this forum so we can finally upload a first version of the statistic...

Very Nice Amittai, you're gonna love Melodyne, it can look a little strange at first but it's a very powerful program.
Never used the MOTU Symphonic Instrument, sounds sweet.

And i also use that as well as Wavelab.

just the thor synth module, which is pretty sweet!!!
and some stuff to make it easier to work. like the tool window.
but still, i think it's worth every cent. :)
Greetz
Yup thor sounds real nice alright - I think I posted a trade show video of it in action that I found a while back, ah here it is... thor synth tradeshow video
I USE THE AKAI MPC1000 AND I USE ADOBE AUDITION FOR MIXING AND I USE ALL OF THE FL.STUDIOS TO SAMPLE SOUNDS INTO MY MPC1000 . I ALL SO USE FL.STUDIOS DRUM KITS WAV SAMPLES TO AND ALOT OF OTHER DRUMKITS LIKE MODERN BEATS AND GIVE ME BEATS .COM DRUMZ
you can cut wav files through acid pro?
i never knew that, thought it just was recording and midi.
-cubase sx along with some vsti and fx.
-wavelab
-reason (like a huge vsti intsrument) rewiring it to cubase
-recycle.

I've done some stuff with acid pro with samples - taking longer samples/loops perhaps exported from reason, and chopping them up to suit, or resizing/trimming the played part to suit my needs.
thx bariga
Ive seen that vid matt
some cool synth!

Another Reason head here. Sound Forge and Acid to Record...ya Diggg
Oh yeah ...I use O2 for the midi , Behringer controls the Alesis M1's and I use my Roland VM-3100 Pro for micing.

FL 7, Cakewalk Music Creator. I'll b usin Reason soon.
I'd like to add Sony Acid Pro 6 and soon Reason 4 ;)
Coolboy in the mix
Cubase 4 is working fine for us :)
I heard you can record on reason now...is this tru?
Yo sixx, I don't think so... But I heard the same thing somewhere also.
I have the new Reason 4.0 now, but I haven't read all the documentation. I'm still trying to get my fingers wrapped around the crazy insane Thor synth they added.
Anyone else know fo sho?
Wish I could DL that prog cuz they want entirely 2 much....or is it i'm broke and can't afford it rite now? lol
The price is high, but fair though. Pristine quality. Ultimate control and customization of everything with ease. It's pretty sweet dude.
If you just can't bear to spend the money.... maybe talk to someone you know locally. Where I'm at I know a couple guru's that are very generous. Wink.
yeah hook dat up.....good lookin fo sho.
Well, you gotta find someone where you're at... It's not the upload/download type of files. You need the physical disc.
yo sixx
i pretty much doubt that you can record using reason, but you can use samples into the nn-xt.
i record them using wavelab or something :)
and i'm pretty sure there are a lot of people that won't buy reason untill it's got that function.
but backdoors are there to be used, and there'll always be at least one backdoor with this kind of stuff.
also i think it's a bit of shame that you can't use vsti's into reason, this would make this much easier.
and the redrum can only store 10 samples so for people that use drum pads and want more samples.
i'd recommend nn-xt wich can hold a lot more samples and adjust this :)
so do like i did Sixx download first, try it out. If you like it and got the cash go and get it :)
H2O quote "Try before You Buy" i really like it :)

big up & pz

Yo Bariga, good call with the nn-xt uses. I use a 16 pad with 2 redrums to make it work out.
I think Reason's aim is to be used as a plug in from a different DAW, like protools. I guess that's why you can't use VST plug ins with it or record, because IT'S supposed to be the plug in.
Amitai, don't you have to switch with mouse of redrum?
now i think of it, PMC (program change 12-15) do offer the possibility to switch patch previous/next(12/13).
and track switch (14/15).
So it seems possible to work that way :)
and that explains a lot, but still now they only need to add an export to mp3,
audio recording and vsti function to make it complete!
maybe one day ;)
big up & pz

You might be right about the 2 redrums, I don't think I actually record them at the same time live...
Seems like it should work though... That's what i meant to say. :)
I haven't used much key switching... I just recently figured out what key switching is for...
Yup from all I've read Reason 4 still doesn't feature audio recording.
FL STUDIO IS KING TO ME.... as far as ease of use and how quick i can make some HOT ish...
but I'm using reason, and even though it's a little slower on getting the flow of the song down than fl, i love it too because now i learned about how lfo's and all that modulation stuff works... also how to connect wires!!
that reason has some raw ass sounds in it , no need for vst's . it has just about all the sounds that a man will need
i have all reason 3 sounds converted to wav files so i can use them on my Fl studio, i also have cubase vst32 5.0, abelton live and of course reason 3.0. i like rewiring and most times use more then one program to get a beat complete. I still havent mastered any of the programs but there are lots of tutorials out there to help an old ass man like me get my learning in. like toogoodtobetrue said, i gotz to have my Fl Studio....way to easy to use for me to pass it up for more complicated programs...its boss in my book
HAY CRIMINAL CAN YOU HOOK YO BOY UP WITH SOME OF THIM CONVERTED REASON SOUNDS BRO ? AND HOW IN THE HELL DID YOU DO THAT ? I HAVE REASON BUT I DONT NO HOW TO USE IT AND I NEED MORE STUFF SO I CAN HOOK IT UP WITH MY MPC . BUT I ALLWAYS WAS LOOKING FOR A WAY TO USE THIM SOUNDS FROM THAT PROGRAM . SO CAN YOU HOOK ME UP AND HELP ME OUT ?
you know i got your back... recycle can change rex to wav and vise versa. give me that link i got those files from when i first met u and i'll upload whatever u want.
I just got PRO-TOOLS for P.C. awesome program!!! It came with the M-Box 2

here it is! Iposted it up there already
its not the newest standard, but ill fix that and start a new forum! ill tell yall then
Cool thanks.
Damn, everybody has FL... Where did y'all even hear about it? 'Cause I don't know anyone outside of maketunes that uses it.
I use Reason 4, Live 6, Gearbox 3.50(toneport ux2), and Guitar Rig 2.
I use Reason 4, Live 6, Gearbox 3.50(toneport ux2), and Guitar Rig 2.
Amittai - I first heard about flstudio (then fruity loops of course) about 5 years back or so I think, from a couple of associates who raved about it, and on various forums where people would argue about what software studio platform was "best" :)
Yeah, it's been around for a long time. My DAW class didn't mention it, and we went over steinberg, cakewalk, motu, digidesign, emagic, propellorhead... But I hear the FL songs up here on the forum and they pretty much sound amazing. It would appear that you can do all of the essential tasks of a DAW with nice quality using FL, but I don't think it gets any acknowledgment. I don't think it's the best, not now at least. But it's up there somewhere close by.
I actually decided to buy it months ago, but if I'm not mistaken it's Windows only.
http://www.maketunes.com/forums/statistic-which-programs-do-you-use-to-m...
"The best software, is the one you know how to use."
________________
-just a thought-
Yup that sounds about right Illusive.
Yeah I think it is windows only Amittai. Perhaps thats just one reason it hasn't been included in most audio courses? That and possibly the stigma of its old less than professional name ;)
But yeah, it certainly is capable of some dam sweet tunes, as we regularly hear round these parts
Well we do learn about plenty of programs that only work on one operating system... Like Emagic (originally manufactured Logic), MOTU, and Apple only work on a Mac; and I think Cakewalk and Sony only work on Windows.
I think it's a combination of a silly name: Fruity Loops (I mean... LOL), and also I think pros overlook it because it only costs $100. A high price makes a program look more professional (as much as I hate to say it)...
The best software is in fact the one you personally know how to use. I agree. Still, if you make a poor choice to start off, you'll never know what you're missing unless you take a step out onto the ledge and try something new. Best thing is to try out a demo of every single one before making a choice. I've done work with Acid, Garageband, Logic, Protools, Audition, Nuendo, Reason, Cubase, Fruity Loops, and some analog 4-track and digital hardware DAWs. I think that knowing how to use all of them makes your personal preference a well educated decision.
Also, the industry for DAWs is a very competitive one. The industry standard won't always be the industry standard. Crappy DAWs get better, and the best DAWs can grow outdated and weak. Logic's been movin up the chain for example, and Protools has been moving down the chain because people are getting the same or better quality for a much better price. A producer should always be aware of the different DAWs and stay current with the changes therein, just like a pro football team keeps up with other teams' games.
Yup absolutely. Plus what really works for one person, and is totally intuitive to use, feels completely clunky and foreign to someone else in some cases. Even if they've taken the time to learn some of the basics with it. So yes, trying a variety is quite important I think. Maybe not all at once when starting though, that can be a little overwhelming. Someone just starting out wants to hear something cool that they're created as soon as possible, which will inspire them to keep on learning and practicing etc.
True.
A newbee looking for instananeous creation probably won't need to buy anything, most computers come with free software to do that now anyways. If not, free software can be found... I had free Acid, Fruity Loops, and Wavelab before I ever decided to do home production... This was back in 2002-2003 on my Dell. I remember the Fruity Loops drum machine that worked similarly to Reason's Redrum with the bank and patch pattern selector and so on... Fruity Loops was the first software I programed a beat into, and when I got Reason I immediately recognized that and that's partly why I always program my own drums into Redrum to this day. And Acid was the first software I recorded into (on my own computer). This is all before I decided to buy a DAW, before I knew what a DAW was...
Here's some links for shits and giggles... Songs I did with my Dell running Acid:
http://www.maketunes.com/audio/ten
http://www.maketunes.com/audio/eleven
http://www.maketunes.com/audio/nine
Lol, thats my first three productions... In that order. It's also the first three times I ever tried to rap...
Memmmmorieeees.....
Well you've come a long way, both in production and mad vocal skills. Though as any good teacher would have said, you certainly "showed promise" even back then ;)
Haha, thank you. In a way I've lost some of the initial writing skills I had then... You know, the type of shit you write when you think you have no idea what you're doing, what to say, and even the genre was unfamiliar then. But now I'm much more experienced and it's hard to keep from putting too much thought and calculation into my writing... I've gotten smug with it and that's good in some ways and bad in others.
I can't write much when I'm at the desk trying to write. But when I'm driving through traffic in a storm you might find me with a knee on the wheel and a notebook in my lap, just writing away before I loose the inspiration and forget what I thunk... LOL, the disastrous muse.
