Pitbull I got some additional programs homie, to add.

RECYCLE ...by far one of the most versital programs out there.
Wave Lab......for minor mastering ( I still leave this to the professionals)

Audacity......very cool (and free) way to record vocals and harware synths

Amittai's picture

Good idea on this new forum post!

Mine's a little off though, I've added lots since my first post in the last forum. Here's what I use:

-Pro Tools LE (7.x)

-Apple Logic Pro Studio (it's a DAW, not just softsynths)

-Reason 4.0

-Cubase LE

-GarageBand

-MOTU Symphonic Instrument

-Celemony Melodyne

-Ableton Live

-Arturia Analog Factory

Pitbull's picture

ok, thx guys!

Pitbull's picture

wow amittai! what do you need all this stuff for? mastering?because despite of that, i use all my plugins in FL...
anyway...nice bro!

Amittai's picture

LOL... Usually I make beats in Pro Tools using Reason and MOTU SI as plug-ins. Sometimes I use Melodyne and Analog Factory as plug-ins too, but not as often.

Cubase I used only for tracking drums because I have 8 inputs on my Alesis interface but since Pro Tools only recognizes its own hardware I have to use Cubase to record with more than 2 mics (only 2 ins on the MBox for Protools). Then I import the 8 drum tracks I recorded into Protools and I'm back to normal work.

Logic Pro I literally just bought and plan to start using it in place of Protools. It does all the stuff I do with Pro Tools that I listed above, but it sounds better and has way more options and way less limitations. Since Logic can use both my MBox and Alesis interfaces, I won't have to record drums in Cubase anymore.

GarageBand came with the Mac... I used it exclusively for several of my earlier beats.

The only one I don't really use is Ableton.

Amittai's picture

Really, in the future I'll be using mostly just Logic for my own projects since it can replace everything else I have... Like the way you do all your work with only FL.

I'll always keep up with Pro Tools and keep improving with it though. I'm trying to get certified as an Operator actually... And when people come to record they want to see Pro Tools running because of the reputation.

Pitbull's picture

ok bro! that wasnt complicated at all!LOL:D
keep doing what youre doing how youre doing it, works out great!Ill start using something for my mastering too! Also I always wanted to start using Reason...

Amittai's picture

Reason is some fun shit. You should be able to use it as a plug-in in FL... Not a bad idea at all.

almighty_pattern's picture

cubase sx3 for tracking and recording,
kontakt 3 for all sorts of sample functions,
maybe spice it up with reason every now and then since it's fun to use,
sometimes do a bit of experimentation with the FL vst plugin.

I really like what i hear about logic though, but I would have to get a new computer for that.

Pitbull's picture

ok amittai, never heard of that, but ill try as soon as i get it!
thx almighty, ill add you to the list.Welcome to maketunes bro, ill check out some of your tunes soon!

matt's picture

Hey pitbull I just realized I have a listing here too :) Its not up to date, so heres what I tend to use these days :

Acid Pro, Reaktor, Battery

Amittai's picture

Yo Pitbull, yeah Reason has an option called Rewire. Rewire allows it to be inserted as a plug-in on a track inside another DAW, like FL.... You'd open FL first, insert Reason Rewire like it's a software instrument, and Reason will automatically open. You still have all the available functions in Reason that you would have with it running solo... This way you never have to choose between making a new beat with FL or with Reason, just use both.

Pitbull's picture

Thats great Amittai...Ill try that soon! I love to cut my samples in FL and putting it all together works fine with it too, but I should start using reason to make my beats. The sounds are much clearer and of better quality!
Ok matt, just changed it. Do you still use cubase at all?Just tell me if you want it deleted!

sumgai's picture

I use reason also. I definitely recommend it. The rewire function is so damn good. My favourite feature is that it allows you to utilize all the effects and instruments in reason, but also all your plug-ins etc within your master program (Ableton/protools/whatever). Gold.

matt's picture

Pitbull - nah might as well remove cubase, just had a brief run with that, but found Acid much more my style

illusivemind's picture

Well if we're doing corrections can you ammend mine to

FL Studio 7, Adobe Audition 3.0 & Celemony Melodyne.

Cheers.

Yo Illusive, what tracks have you used Melodyne on? Just curious to see how you incorporated it. You were right before when you said it's a powerful program in the right hands. I'm currently training my hands to be right... lol.

illusivemind's picture

Haha, true that. Most of the new tracks that have vocals I'll put through Melodyne.

Even if it's just to take a look and extract some midi data as I did in "It's a Fine Day" so I could mimic the vocal hook with the synth.

In these two mashups I changed the melody of the vocals to fit the instrumental:

Que Pena / Tanto Faz (Illusive Mind Mashup) by Itnocab vs Tamy
Don Quixote Nostalgia (Illusive Mind Mashup) by Durden vs Narva9

If you listen to the original acapellas you'll hear the changes.

Good call on extracting the melody from the vocs.

Are you using the stand-alone software? I only have the plug-in.

Niether of those tracks' vocals sound edited at all... Good work.

I used it in my track No Friends (Whatever). The beginning vocs are all from the exact same take. Those are supposed to sound natural. You can hear how I flattened the pitch modulation on the other parts in the song too.

Anyways, you've given me some ideas. Thanks for the inspiration Ill!

illusivemind's picture

Yeah I use the stand-alone version.
Flattening pitch modulation is a very cool effect, I've used it in one of my 'works in progress'.

Nice harmony work there and some great effects on the vox throughout.

Thanks!

A thought crossed my mind... If you ever hear a track of mine that you'd like to remix or something I'd be glad to send the accapella.

Just a thought.

illusivemind's picture

Alright cool dude, I'll keep it in mind. And don't steal my signature!

Amittai's picture

LOL, but it was just a thought... If I could edit it, I'd change it to "only an idea" in your respect. Hehe.

Pitbull's picture

Hey illusive, I'm glad if all of you tell me about your new stuff etc., so the page is always up to date! As I already said, I launched this forum so everyone always knows about the software of maketunes users!
Thx ;)
LOL Amittai, youd better watch out if you want your head to stay on your shoulders!
