Studio Monitors

Anybody know any good monitors for around $200 or less? Where can I find em? Are there any stores like circuit city that i can find some?

make your own monitor for less money dude...go buy yourself a speaker, then get the measurements suited for it to make your case...go buy the pal, and do it youself....then coat it with your selection of wood imitation coating....it would be cool, and fun, if you have time..I made my speaker, it was about 150$, and when I was living in my other appartement at the third floor, my neighbour from the ground floor came and asked me to turn the music down cause "the bass was too loud!" :)) of course, ohters came too...
Now I only get complaints from the neighbour under me cause I decided to keep quiter...but still, I can rock the whole building, and all the parties I'm mixin in are dancing to my speaker's beats...so, if you're interested, search the net, and you'll get the idea ;)
Good luck!bbye

if you want good monitors, m audio has pretty affordable ones.

Not sure if you're meaning $200 each or for 2, but if it were me I would go for 2 x KRK RP5 for $150 each... haven't tried them myself, but I'd imagine they'd be like a less grunty version of my RP8s - and they rock.

I use "M-Audio Studio Pro 3" desktop monitors.

If you're on a budget (like I am) then they are pretty good value for money. I was using hi-fi speakers for ages and I definitely noticed the difference as soon as I made the switch. They aren't the best monitors out there, that's for damn sure, but like I said, if you want something cheap ($130 US), then they'll do the trick. They're quite small, so the bass response isn't huge - I usually switch between headphones and monitors anyway - but they're powered, so you don't need an amp, you just plug 'em straight in.

They're bottom of the line M-Audio's, but I think for another $50-$100 you could get something slightly better.

Good luck.

I love my headphones as monitors.
Next I use a pair of really small JBL Control 1s with a really linear sound.
As a second reference I use typical Hi-Fi Boxes that sound quite boomy - they help detect and eliminate that rumble in the low mids.
And don´t forget the car radio to double- and triple-check your mixes... They usually bring me down to size again...

Hahah yeah dude. I try to listen on as many different sound systems as possible before settling on a final mix. Well... most of the time haha!

KRK RP5 are not a bad pair. They sound pretty good actually. The only problem is if you don't get the subwoofer to go with them you may have some final mix issues with your low end freqs. I had this problem and I have the RP8's. And unti l I got the matching Sub, I was not hearing the amount of bass in my songs like I wanted so I overcompensated the low end freqs by turning them up to loud. So keep in mind that the two speakers need a low end mate. Good luck
