Hi everyone, I'm wondering if any masters of Reason 4 or Ableton Live v7 can help me out on a effect I want to achieve.
If I have an 8 second sample playing through a sampler, I want to be able to control when the note can be heard by pressing a key on my keyboard. I don't want to stop the sample when I hit the key, I just need the sample to be heard for as long as the key is pressed. Does that make sense? I guess what I'm wanting to do is create a 'volume on' command for when a key is pressed, then 'volume off' when it's released without effecting the start/end time of the sample itself. Can anyone work out how to do it in either Ableton or Reason?
As an example, if you play a vocal sample in the sampler, and tap a key really quicky, it'd sound like the vocalist was stuttering as they sang.
Thanks all!

hi there what your talking about is a gate either do it manually ableton has a gate in its fx or download camelspace and jump to trance gate and turn off the delay
Yeah... Actually, that could work. I should be able to trigger gate on/off via MIDI CC if I want to control it via the keyboard? Thanks Ed.

Yeah gate masking. You might be able to that with the matrix programmer if your route the the Gate CV. Don't ask me how. I've never done it.
What's been up whichya Bab303? I might have a project for us.

Sweet. You've got my email yeah?
OK. I've got that Matrix Pattern Seq working in Reason & gating away at my sample Good stuff!. Looks like you can only program it via the mouse rather than on the fly via the keyboard tho. It's progress though...

just noticed this thread and probably is sorted but a great vst plugin is 'dfx midi gater'. you can put it on your audio track in Live (or whatever) and send midi to it from another track or your keyboard or whatever.. you can send any note to it and it will turn the sound on or off depending on a few attack and decay paramaters.. its free also (just google it)

Yeah we sorted it out, and actually in Reason, there are patches to do this right in the factory sound bank. But thanks for the info, I'll check it out sometime.
