Hello everyone!
As this is my first post, I start with an easy one. Tomorrow I'm getting this (hopefully) great controller and I'm already having nightmares of freezing lcd screens. Any ideas how I can avoid frying the hardware:)
Do I need the editor (recommended by Akai) to upgrade to os 10.1 or can I use just basic sysex dumper? My set up is osx 10.4.11 and ableton.

Hey welcome to maketunes. Hmmm not sure about whether you can use sysex dumper, haven't used one myself. Was there some reason you weren't wanting to use the Vyzex software? I would guess that you could always just try the sysex dumper if you'd prefer, and then if it gets "Stuck", just wipe it and start over...
These Vyzex threads may be of some help too:

Hi Matt,
I've nothing against Vyzex, it's just these horror stories floating around of using osx and killing the mpd by upgrading "wrong" way...I'm just curious how this can happen. Anyway, thanks for the official guide. I may dare to take this path although I don't use windows. Hope it's all bad hype:)

Ah yup gotcha. Maybe someone else here who uses a Mac and MPD24 can give some further recommendations too? I know of several people who have used their MPD and mac without many hassles, and I would presume that they've upgraded their firmware as part of that...
