Upgrading RAM or buying a new processor?

Hi everyone,

it's been more than a year and I hope you're all fine.
Got a question, though:

When I overload my Vegas 4.0 with insert effects it soon starts to crackle, stutter and slow down.

Do you think I can solve this problem by upgrading my RAM or should I rather look for a better processor?

Any suggestions are w-e-l-c-o-m-e... Thank you very much !!!
