Who would you consider your "Music Mentors" ??

There are many greats in the world of music. Who are your, at most your music mentors. I have plenty, to name a few. Santana - Great playing, and music style, Bob Marley - great writer, and music, John Lennon - Great writer, and great music, and Prince - a musical genius, and a visionary.

For me, James Hetfield (metallica) writes fantastic metal riffs, Slash and Brian May probably have my favourite guitar tones in their solos which i try and imitate.

But as a whole band, it has to be pink floyd. Theyve influenced my music more than i care to admit!. They had such an amazing way of composing their tracks. Makes them timeless imo.

So yah, they are my mentors.

Easy... Production wise, its the trifecta of, DJ Shadow, Alchemist and 9th Wonder. They revolutionized hip-hop production... you just don't know it cuz they did it back when they were ghost producing. Kanye got his sound from 9th. Listen to some old murs and little brother... hell even the new stuff, listen to it all LB is the SHIT! and Murs is the best thing from Cali since the late 80's early 90's. As for inspiration, I take that from all walks of music. Taurus mentioned Floyd. Waters is the MAN! His music has greatly influenced my style. Animals and WYWH... just plain amazing key work Kraftwerk's arpeggiated synths just stick with me when making my synths. I saw Bootsy mentioned. One of my all time favorites. I put on an old Bootsy or P-Funk record when I'm trying to get that perfect bass line. I'll emulate it perfectly one of these days. Led Zep has influenced me so much, I've sampled them and wrote an homage beat, using the No Quarter elec. piano. And Zappa... he was a genius musician and nobody even knows it.

My actual hands on mentor was a buddy of mine Jim Pepper AKA Jungle Jim (Who's dad had a doctorate in computer science... That's just plain funny...) He taught me all the basics of producing using software.

Be good... or just good at it
You keep it pimp... I'm a keep it gangsta!

James Brown. There's like a before and after James Brown - and I think he laid the foundations for a lot to follow - Sly and Family Stone, Bootsy, Parliament etc. God bless him.

Love, Ingrid
