My very small home setup for conceptual work before going to the 'real' studio.
A 15" Apple Macbook Pro with Protools 7.4, Reason 3, NI Komplete and BFD 1.5. Other hardware is a 49 key Evolution keyboard; M-Audio Keystation Pro 88; M-Audio ProjectMix I/O; M-Audio BX5a Monitors. Got a couple of affordable condenser and dynamic studio mics and a collection of 5 guitars. Maybe a bit overkill for concept work, but I need to be comfortable... Auralex acoustic treatment coming soon, so watch this space. A set of Roland V-Drums comes to visit often enough for midi drum work.

Ahhh! Matt You GOTTA Make A Delete Button lol
Hey TooGood,
I can't imagine how you program Reason with a 'typing' keyboard, but awesome job man! I would not know where to begin...
I had a small setup like that as well a few years ago (but with a small midi keyboard). It took me a very long time to build up to what I got now, and it is not finished yet. I need speaker stands to lift the monitors up to ear level, and I need acoustic treatment on the walls and in corners, not to mention sound-proofing. But I guess sound-proofing is the last thing on your mind when you are on a tight budget. Its more important to sound good than to sound 'silent' to the neighbors. And software compression/gates does wonders for the background hum or the odd passing car, because my room is not so sound proof.

Nice setyp Lenroc. Welcome to MT.
My view on acoustic treatment is that it tends to follow the rule of diminishing returns. If you don't have a great space to start with acoustic treatments is going to give little reward for the amount it costs. If you can do it cheaply though then it may work out.

-just a thought-
This little space is currently an interim solution until I move into a new house next month. It really is supposed a baby room, that I split in half. The new place is going to have a dedicated production room (nice size) and also eventually a dedicated live room. Will upload photos of my progress. It could be a nice "before and after" series of images!
Yeah do post that before and after series - that'd be cool to see. Plus you can always upload them as maketunes images, then post a forum or blog post with all of the images embedded one after the other with explanation of what each pic was etc if you wanted. I can show you how to do this if you're not sure how to go about doing that
