Downhill Mountain Bike Crash on HelmetCam

Oh the speed, oh the excitement, oh the carnage. See if you can pick the point when I realize I'm about to die (clue : it's moments before I fly off a bank under heavy brakes, so heavy in fact that I'm already doing a high speed stoppie on my front wheel as I leave the banks lip)

I'll post some more of my mountain bike helmet cam adventures soon!

Oh, by the way, check out the metal pedals I use, with metal grubscrews for lots of grip...

And if you don't mind blood and gore, this is what happens when that pedal rakes the one part of you thats not wearing body armor (the back of the legs!) at high speed

Warning! Very gory pic!
ouch, perhaps I should have got stitches!

Ya I bet that hurt man.I used to do stunts on BMX and I had medal pedals with spikes in them for grip.I ripped my leg up and changed my pedals. They are good for grip, but they will slice you open quick like.

That picture is sick bro. That is what my leg looked like if not worse.I was trying to jump a 10 Ft ramp with my BMX and lost control coming down and landed on my front tire.It threw me over the handle bars and gashed my leg open bad.

Nothing like a little excitement and danger in our lives right boys? ;)

Let's see, I think you first realised you was going to die when it's 7secs into this clip and you're looking down at your route from the top of that mountain. Man you got balls the size of Titanic!

That looks like a nasty cut on your leg. I once split my head open and needed stitches when a metal bucket full of garden soil we were trying to pulley up a tree fell from a height. The rope snapped and I was directly underneath the bucket. I was only 10 so don't bother asking me why me and a mate was doing that in the first place lol, I guess boys will be boys!

LMAO coolboy - its a very adrenaline filled sport thats for sure. The funny thing was even though during that crash the pedal raked my leg, and actually deeper than it looks from that grainy photo, we checked our bikes, and kept riding for another few hours before heading home. With all the adrenaline I could barely feel the gash in my leg.

I must get back out there, I've been so wrapped up in the change in career and lifestyle its fallen by the wayside a bit. Watching the videos is enough to get the blood pumping though, I know those trails well - exciting stuff!

Yes I guess it's true that people get super strength or feel less pain when the adrenaline is flowing like crazy around the body, I guess it's like when you have a fight, you don't really feel the full force of any pain until well after the fight is over, I guess it's due to the adrenaline.

Yes very exciting stuff! but please be careful Matt, it's also very dangerous stuff as you found out and we need you here to run this site ;)

Thats right coolboy, it helps clear and focus the mind when you're attempting very intense technical riding (which I haven't really got any footage of here)
